Dyntopo. Indicate the flow of the mesh with a Flowstrokes

Indicate the flow of the mesh with a Flowstrokes or inheriting it from the original mesh when you sculpt with Dyntopo. The strokes should only indicate the direction of the mesh, not the amount of detail. The mesh under the Flowstrokes should have a "loop" or grill shape. Flowstrokes should be able to react independently of the rest of the mesh when sculpting with the rest of brushes on them, respecting the original width of the path. All brushes should have filters to be able to act on flowstrokes, on the standard mesh or both. Closed paths should generate patches. The brushes should have an option to limit the paint to the initial patch. Decimate respects edges well, but Detail Flood Fill does not. Convert hard edges to mesh flow when activating Dyntopy or running Detail Flood Fill.

Advantages: Do not overload the mesh to get sharp edges. Control creases individually. Preserve the creases when smoothing the mesh with the brush. Preserve the edges of the original models. In general, I consider the tool usefull to define tensions, creases and corners, without having to manually rework the entire mesh with a good flow.

So there's now a Topology Rake which seems close to what you are proposing: youtu.be/VhUTDbvoEUQ

It's not using any edge marking though.

* @Caetano Veyssières * Yes, I've seen it and tried it, and although I think it's an improvement, I think something is missing to be more functional. It is easy to lose the corners, the Smooth brush completely ignores the order of the faces, perhaps because even if they are ordered as a square they are actually triangular.

by contours, do you mean edges ?

albertdearias Author

Yes, edges, creases or folds, I have already corrected, thanks. I do not know how it should really be called, since the resolution in the direction of the stroke should depend on the adjacent resolution whereas in the perpendicular should be defined by the user as well as the thickness.

thanks, that looks very good !
