Plugin update notifications

I would love to see a notification for plugins that have new updates/releases from their developers and a way to just update the plugin within blender rather than needing to go get it ourselves and manually reinstall them with every update. Maybe even have this feature for Blender as well?

Proposal: Allow the developers of their respective plugins to include their own server link that can be checked for the update and simply displays a simple bell notification for the plugins that allow it. Then the user will choose when to update them once they see the notification. PROBLEM SOLVED for everyone worried about servers and network issues.

This idea would make managing add-ons more convenient for users. Though as pointed out in another comment there is no central server / repository for 3rd party developer of Blender add-ons which would make managing such a task quite difficult if not impossible.

With that said some 3rd party developers of Blender add-ons have included in their Blender add-on's preferences an alert and direct update feature. So perhaps this code / functionality (along with a few other preference perks such as custom n-panel tab category naming) could be applied to a standard Blender add-on template so all 3rd party developers big and small of Blender add-ons can implement the functionality with ease.

Once again, great idea, hopefully someone with more experience with developing Blender add-ons can flesh it out into something practical.

* @dcb.creative * make managing such a task quite difficult if not impossible.

Only way to make it alive is to make Blender not open source, and limit any 3rd party coding activity with some " central " addon hub. It will never happen for Blender.

Second way is to create some magic market/repository hub which magic power will be so cool so it will cause people from markets come and sell from this magic platform. People coders from Git will forget about Git too and start working via this magic place.... Of course it cant be real, not in this reality.

There is no any great idea. Sorry, those who vote for this just don't understand what is Blender in general.

There is no " central " server which handle all the developers and addons across the world.... Blender addons lives on number of different platform like Gumroad, BlemderMarket, etc. . Some of them live on Git. Some of them exist only as text format code somewhere which you can copy/paste and add extension .py. Some live on developers own webpages.

So how you imagine to implement such request? Almost impossible and aimless work just to save some 5 - 10 minutes of googling for you?

You can have mail notifications if you get addons via markets like Gumroad, but not more than this.

Good idea!
