A workaround is to put cursor far away along the axis and scale to its pivot

I would like to point out that Blender 3.0 is out for some time and 3.1 is on the way and it baffles me why there isn't a lock axis in edit mode and it is driving me nuts, i am fatigued by constantly pressing shortcuts to exclude an axis when moving vertex/edges arround, we have it in object mode so why not in edit mode ?

If i knew how to code i'd make either a small addon or do a patch for code review as this is a really "tiny" issue and a huge papercut

I'd really like to see this implemented in the interface but I suspect it would be non-trivial. Would the lock be to local or global axis? Should modifiers or other tools respect the lock?

How does this differ from using axis constraints while doing a transform operation (e.g. <kbd>G</kbd>?<kbd>X</kbd> to constrain movement to the global X axis)?

it can save alot time in retopology also much cleaner

"User Interaction" is different than "User Interface". He suggested an idea to enhance the User Interface and you adviced him to use a shortcut.. They are two different things.

No-one should be forced to use shortcuts. Of course shortcuts may be faster than using buttons/icons but asking new Blender users to learn ~20 shortcuts just to use a software is bad. People should be free to choose how to use a software (shortcuts or toolbar icons).

All features & options should also be accessible through the Interface. Btw, most of other big 3D modeling softwares have such icons on their UIs, it's very convenient. They also provide shortcuts to perform the same tasks. Blender should also have both.

Sadly, it seems that every Blender user advices to use shortcuts (I don't blame them, everybody is free to use Blender the way he/she prefers) but to make Blender interface easier to use, Blender developers (designers) should also focus on these little parts.

The Blender interface should be more user-friendly and these kind of buttons (in this example, to lock axis in edit mode) are a good idea.

In fairness to me, I suggested no such thing. I was asking how (or if) it was different from the existing behavior because the text of the initial proposal is so sparse. It needs to be clarified. Also, would the locking be on the local axes or global?
