Distance indication for lights
Since switching to Blender (2.4x) I've missed the ability to determine how far a light has an effect in the scene. I would like to be able for example to assign a distance of say 300 feet to a spotlight or 18' to a point light.
I would also like a visual interactive indication of that distance; a globe around a point light, adj. beam for a spot.

This sort of "How To" question should be directed to BlenderArtists
This is not a development suggestion.
* @ammusionist * THIS may shed a little light in your question.
What I tried to say was that afaik, there is no way to dictate the illumination distance in blender. Your reference regarded direction not distance.
I propose that the ability to dictate distance be added in the widget as well as an additional change to the Icons indicating the distance in the 3d view. It just to more quickly ascertain whether the lamp is as desired or not. * @ammusionist *
* @ingapambi * In Cycles, the light can't be restricted like that. In Eevee however, you can control the end of the light by activating the "Custom Distance" option in either the point, spot or area lights. True there's no widget for it on the work-space, but at least it may solve your issue.
I propose then that Cycles offer an option to restrict light like that.* @ammusionist *
* @ingapambi * Interesting - Looks like there might be a way after all.
