Grease Pencil - trying to draw with auto-keyframe turned off should add a frame if there are no frames
I like the recently-introduced feature of Grease Pencil that it only adds new frames when auto-keyframe is turned on. Very useful.
However, it causes a problem - many people have auto-keyframe off by default, and in that case, when you add a blank grease pencil object and switch to draw, nothing happens. You get a rather cryptic warning in the status bar (
No available frame for creating stroke
) but basically it 'feels' like it's not working. The only way to draw is to turn on autokeyframe, draw, then turn it off again.
Seems like quite a few people have this problem, I certainly do! devtalk.blender.org/t/grease-pencil-no-available-frame-for-creating-stroke/18114
Why not make an exception to the rule - if there's no keyframes on a GP object, and you start drawing, Blender adds a keyframe.
I mean, when you start drawing you always want to draw, right? As far as I can see, there's never a situation where you'd start drawing on a blank grease pencil object and not want to add a frame?

Right now, when you add a blank grease pencil object it will add a keyframe to avoid this problem
