Having a Tilt shift Camera in Blender Would Give the Artists a Way to Control the Focus More.

tilt_shift_lens.jpg

Blender camera allows shifting the lens, which is a powerful feature used often by the architecture photographers to fix the perspective. With a SHIFTING feature that we already have in Blender camera, you can for example locate your camera on the ground level and remove the visual perspective effect of your high rise buildings.

To make Blender to be true powerhouse of 3d "photography" I think we also need the TILTING feature.

What can you achieve with the tilting lens?

Most of the time when we talk about "tilt shift", people think about those "miniature photos". That's an easy trick to be done even in image editors. Therefore that's not something I would be very much interested, even when I think it's a cool trick.

With tilting lens, you can also do the opposite, and that's what I would like to be done in Blender. You can tilt the focal plane to make more of your objects to be in the focus, while unwanted objects are out of focus.

Simple example: tilt the focal plane of your camera to make for example the whole landscape sharp and only sky blurry. That also can be very useful in product "studio" renderings etc.

If Blender camera allowed tilting the lens to any direction, you could be quite selective of which objects actually are in focus and which not. You could make your background blurry and foreground objects sharp, even when they're not exactly in the same distance to the camera.

That all being said; it's better that I will put a photography YouTube video that explains clearly what you can do with the tilt shift lens and why I believe it would be really useful feature in 3d-rendering that currently cannot be done it in Blender.

Yeah I would love that. I think it shouldn't be that much of work to implement?

I also believe that this wouldn't be too much of development, if someone just knows enough about Blender core programming. I sadly don't know.
