Our company is offering $30.000 to someone who can modify the Blender source code to include alignment operations

For example, in Blender it is not possible to make a bone align with the Z axis, so that the character is standing. Because of this, we are losing hundreds thousands every month in factory waste. No plugins exist currently in Blender to make a bone point up. The change is extremely necessary as it is a basic feature that should have been released with the first version of Blender but, inexplicably, it doesn't exist after decades of the software. Please reach out if you think you can make a Blender fork or submit a change to the source code. photo_2026-07-13_20-23-50.jpg

What is this RCS post ? Why would you assume the blender source code needs to be changed, for a simple operations that is actually easily done with a simple bone constraint ? imgur.com/a/OESHgyI

Even if it were not possible that easily, you could probably figure out ways to do it with a python script or geometry nodes.

Allow me to doubt your company is losing hundreds of thousands of income monthly because you didn't find a way to align bones to a specific axis in blender

A bone constraint is overkill for something that should be achievable with two keystrokes since the first version of the software. However, the biggest problem here is that it assumes that I have a bone to apply the constraint on. While the general problem of rigidly aligning things such as edges or faces remains. This is a major, catastrophic flaw in the software, that limits at least 50% of it's capabilities and use cases (which is why paid software like AutoCAD and Maya still exist), and it would be actually advantageous for my company (that works in industrial design) to have either a version of Blender that is finally managed by serious people, or a fork of Blender. The constant bestial reaction of people like yourself to missing basic functionality is why the software is in in such a state. Yes, we can quickly write Python scripts to align a specific pair of objects along a given edge or bone, but we have a majority of employees that are not coders and can't be constantly assisted by coders. Extensions like MeshAlignPlus were created specifically for addressing these basic aspects that the developers, by a combination of ignorance and arrogance, have left out, but MeshAlignPlus is deeply broken and, from our conversations with the developers, the reason seems to lie in flaws in the Blender api. The fact that you have to ask people to "quickly downvote, before anyone sees it" is why a fork of Blender is much needed, a thing we are actually going to invest dozens of thousands of dollars on, because it is long term cheaper than a premium software subscription for the amount of users we have. All that being said, I wanted to try reaching a consensus with the community before that, but these answers speak by themselves.

I guess this is just a bluff to attract attention, but you can do this with a simple script to set absolute rotation to a bone

downvote it, it doesn't deserve to be seen by anyone
