Adding "K" to the end of a number value should make it X-thousand
Might have been suggested before? Whenever I wanna put in an amount in thusand I always do this by muscle memory, before doing it manually.
If you don't understand by the title I mean that if you write "5k" in a number value box it should autofill into "5000", that's all.
Anyone else do this? Or maybe there's a super simple addon for this I've missed?

About muscle memory, I think it's quicker to digit three zeros in a row with the hand you have on the numpad, rather than moving your hand on the K key
* @ Lsscpp * I don't use a numpad, I have a TKL keyboard and adjusted keybindings as such. Also, even when I had a keypad I just never used it? Maybe I'm the wierdo I guess
And m and t and ...
* @-L0Lock- * I can see there being a problem there as m also is meters, however if it's a number value where that does not apply - maybe it could work!
* @Elisabeth L * well, 1k meters is 1km. That's how metric system works with lengths already.
EDIT:
I'm deferring to -L0Lock-'s interpretation of this.
as an architect ... this will be confusing :-D
* @bassem.adel * Can you ellaborate on that? it's not as obvious to us non-architects what sort of measurement you're refering to. For instance, 'KM' would actually work as 'K' also means a thousand in that context. But even from a light temperature angle, 'K' is for 'Kelvin'. So it seems there's a lot of places where this could cause issues aside from that.
* @simon.p.heggie * how about above k ? and you said it it referes to kilometers but we mostly use meters and millimetres , so in millimetres case it will be Kmm ? like that ? or 5k mm how about million ? 5000k mm ? mi for million ? so 5mi mm , a bit confusing I guess
* @bassem.adel * yeah to be perfectly honest, for all the trouble it might stir, it's not very high on the list of things that would massively improve speed of workflow.
That being said, if it suddenly showed up, I wouldn't be storming the gates of devtalk about it :D
In the case of metric inputs, I don't know why you would want to write 1k millimeters. A thousand millimeters is one meter, so just write
1 m. Or if you really want it, just write1mm*1000(or, if letters were integrated as scale factors, you could write1m*k). But 1kmm doesn't make much sense to me.Trying imagine usage cases ... It should be so rare case to use 5k as 5 000. What if u need 5 031, 5100, 5500. Most of time numbens is not so rounded so this is only for 000 cases.
Then - I ( am I so unique? ) often type numbers on numpad by left hand to keep holding right on mouse. Move all hand to
Kbutton for getting 000 ... it take ~ 0.1 ( even less? ) second to just press three times 0 0 0. Even if u type on numpad by right hand -Kis so far from left hand " comfort zone " ( u can't just move finger, it need to move all left hand to press 'K' ) . Is it really help to solve anything?What if implement such thing as if u press some number while holding " 0 " you get N " 0 " ? It will be more flexible feature and have no problem with moving hand far from numpad.
* @IIIFGIII * I might be wrong but I think using k would be more fore input writing. Like if you want to write 1 000 somewhere, you can write 1k instead and it will result as 1 000 once validated. Kind of the same way you can write different metric scales in an object's locations input and it will be converted according to your scene's unit (in meters by default):
* @-L0Lock- * Modo does this too. Seems logicial to me. It's only one extra thing but it's gotta be more architectually friendly
* @-L0Lock- * What if u need 10 000, 100 000, 1 000 050, 10 000 300. If it work as I proposed you press: 1, 0+4 = 10 000; 1, 0+5 = 100 000; 1, 0+4, 5, 0 = 1 000 050. Don't such way are much flexible and convinient instead of some fixed three "000" by pressing some button far from numpad (if goal is to optimize work with "0")? IMO -
Kis wrond direction of digging, too fixed/limited solution. What about some asian users which not use any "K" in their life because they write and think in symbols?About GIF - instead of this typing cm,mm,m, all this things I prefer to write what I need in numpad in half of second.... Who use it at all?
* @IIIFGIII * People who are more prone to think in terms of what ever measurement they're confident in might like to do on the go conversions of unit data. Particularly when dealing with the metric system on and off. I remember it being useful for me at some point and I'm not even an architect. (CG generalist)
* @simon.p.heggie * I work with drawings/buildings/meters/milimeters every day ... I dont feel I need such solution. Of course people different. For me too slow = useless. Too fixed/limited - same. K is fixed/limited.
If u need to write 100 000 - u need to type 1, 0, 0, k ? ... It has no sense, if I already pressed "0" two times I can press it three more times. Dont get me wrong - I not against, I just find it not the best solution. Even if it somewhere " industry standard" and all that nothing meaning stuff ...
* @IIIFGIII * I get you, but if you were to try a modo trial and dedide from testing in there if you hated it, would it really be the worst thing if someone volunteered to add it? I'm also considering repetative strain injury. Over the long term, our joints and muscle seem to fair better with varied and purposeful movement.
However I must agree that 'k' may not be the way the handle it.
