better / new colorpicker
I had an idea for a new colorpicker for Blender.
The current one is really strong in terms of effiency but it made it hard some times getting exactly the desired color or improving an exsisting color.
So I looked at colorpickers from other software as reference and the one from photoshop appeared as very powerful and flexible.
Especially one feature drew my attention.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m_Y7yuml-ROLIrPGYw0EpkM_govWYiGh/preview Photoshop lets you dynamically change the space you pick your colors in. So I started optimizing and cleaning up the photoshop colorpicker and this came out: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1i7yY8oyIwHq88bjhK2JjKrE8M-PwI7nY/preview So finally i ported my concept in the blender colorpicker to show how this could look implemented. the square and hue as a slider is an actual option in Blender that can be found in the user preferences. To use space more efficiently and make new users feel more comfortable, i think this should be a default. Also it would increase the speed of the workflow when all channels are in just one tab. In the existing color picker in Blender, you have to fex.: adjust the red value - change the tab - adjust the blue channel etc. Also it would be a major improvement in color optimization to see the previous color to get a taste of how you actually changed the color. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p4NdnL_wdhnaiNSv20y9tox786MzMqCY/preview So this is what i came up with as "the best" Please let me know what you think. Go into the preferences, in the system tab you can change the color picker type into anything you like. I believe Square (SV + H) is what you are looking for ;)
@julien.kaspar: yes as I wrote but going in the preferences every time is inefficient. And this fact makes it also so easy to implement.
True. I personally wouldn't scale up the color picker menu like that but adding the type selection could be helpful for those who constantly switch between them. I don't know many who do that though.
@finnlheinemann: Save it as your startup file!
I would suggest making this wonderful " full-featured color picker " as an option among the current ones. Because I'm sure a lot of people would enjoy simpler color pickers.
(And find a nice fancy and short name for this)
My vision ....
@forestgumpovu4: well that's some really nice ideas and the one with the unused space is as a good argument. But this compact mode thing feels a little messy to me. Something between yours and mine will be optimal I guess
Hi this is my first proposal for Blender and i hope it was more or less fine to read.
