Give Node Groups the option to change the Display Type of another object

Node Groups that have an Object type socket, should have an option (in that socket's properties) to change the Display Type of the object that will be referenced in that socket. rcs_display_type1.jpg

A specific example of where this would be useful are mesh booleans. Here's a very simple "Boolean Cut" node group: rcs_display_type2.jpg

I want to cut out a chunk of a geometry with a cutter object, but the cutter will still be visible and obstructing the result:

[Current] -> [Proposed] rcs_display_type3.jpg

With this option in the socket panel, we could automatically make the cutter display as a wireframe or bounds.

(this is a mockup, the actual menu should probably have a additional "Original" option as the default) rcs_display_type4.jpg

Once the object is no longer being referenced, it should revert to its original Display Type.

I'm not sure what should happen if multiple node groups are referencing the same object and are giving it different display types. Go with the last one?

I think it's a nice idea, but it's geometry nodes that change objects on the object level, not geometry, so I guess it might be tricky design-wise. I don't think there's one example where geometry nodes change the object on the object level
