Change Asset Browser Category concept

I'm encountering some real challenges with Blender's asset browser, and I'd love to see if there are solutions or plans for improvement. Managing assets doesn't seem to work as seamlessly as one would hope.

  • Asset Categorization: It would be incredibly helpful if I could categorize assets across all files in my asset folder on the fly. Currently, when I make a category and assign an asset to it, it doesn’t carry over when I open another file. I wish to add different assets to the same category across various files, but it seems this isn’t possible. Is there a workaround for this?

  • Folder-Based Visualization: My asset folders are well-organized. Wouldn't it be more intuitive if this organization could be mirrored in the asset library itself as a starting point? This would make finding and using assets much more straightforward. Some times assets need to be in several categories (arch viz). So my first point becomes relevant.

  • Loading Times: Also, I've noticed that loading assets takes a considerable amount of time. Is this a common issue? Additionally, the asset library itself behaves unpredictably; sometimes it loads correctly, but at other times it fails to load at all. Any tips on how to speed up this process would be greatly appreciated.

  • Saving and Marking Assets : The process of saving and marking assets seems quite complex and unclear. I'm trying to figure out the best approach - whether it's using groups, joining everything into a single geometry, or utilizing collections. Another point of confusion is the inconsistency when reintroducing these assets into a scene. Sometimes they align in relation to a surface, and other times they don't. Understanding the underlying logic in these scenarios is challenging.

What are your experiences and thoughts on this?

You currently can have assets on all your files, just store the .blend with the asset in your asset folder, and it will be accesible from all the files.

  • One thing that I think could be helpfull is a way to store data into that folder or in a default blend stored in that folder, and move assets in a nicer and clearer way without leaving blender.

  • I think Folder Based will add a fresh navigation to it, but I would not make that default.

  • I will push to create a visualization option to only see the assets stored on the selected "folder" and not all the nested and child ones.

I was going to say that , it is better to categorize using folders instead of current categorizing , it seems awkward, I believe it can be an option to categorize based on folders as a script or something so it doesn't have to be the case always
