ZDepth transparency

Hello world ! I've a proposition.. let's have a z pass (or mist pass)that actually handle transparency ?

As you can see in my pass, the glass shouldn't be opaque..

Or maybe I am missing something here ?

Just re-use the mask from the combined pass. Z Depth shouldn't have transparency, IMO.

agreed, this is an age-old compositing problem, and just like any 'automatic alpha sorting' you're going to have really weird results- just do it manually with the correct passes.

The point of render passes is to "pass" a single and simple information about the render. So that you can tweak, reuse and refine every single layer that compose your render.

If you start adding multiple informations into individual passes, I fear it will create redundancy, more data weight, increase r/w times, break interoperability with other softwares, ....

* @-L0Lock- * i'll concede that it has been about 10 years since I've worked in film where I needed to do compositing so things may have changed since then- but back then I would have rendered out a mask pass (which even 10 years ago was a negligible amount of time to render) and then comped out the transparent areas with the mask pass.

* @testure * As far as I've been able to see, people either use some sort of alpha/mask pass, either use custom made masks or use other passes as masks.

* @-L0Lock- * I have a jinn character in my scene and he have transparency in his tail . Now the problem is I can't use z depth pass for defocus node. Also I was using normal as mask for outer glow effect of his body I can't do either ( for this I can render out alpha in separate file. but what about z depth.?)

* @Souvik Karmakar * This isn't the place to get help on your project. post on the Blender chat or on some appropriate forum like blenderartists.org
