Normal data above 4.1 is not compatible with normal data below 4.0

Version 4.1 started to rework the auto-smoothing feature, turning it into a modifier, and there seems to be some underlying modifications that I'm not sure about, but it has caused some problems, when I import a model from nurbs modelling software into version 4.1, its normal and smoothing shading is normal, and the surfaces are very smooth (because my nurbs modelling skills are very good), and when I copy the model directly from 4.1 to 4.0 or lower, it has a problem with smooth shading, it becomes flat shading, apparently the two versions have different views on how to handle smoothing, which causes this error!

The smoothing colouring change in version 4.1 was a big hit, he got me more work, and we should thank the person who proposed this change, he got everyone twice as much work just because he didn't think the name auto-smoothing was compatible with his function!

Are you saying you want to open blender files in 4.0 that were created in 4.1? That's insane lol

God knows how many sub-4.0 .blend files there are in the world, it's crazy to do this kind of reproductive isolation-like maneuvering for a name change!

I need to say that some people still have their own reasons for choosing to stay at 4.0 or below, if your model was used and textured in 4.1, someone else who gets this file may try to put the model inside into his 4.0 version, because a difference of only 0.1 will give the illusion that not much has changed, which saves the time of recreating the texture, but because of the nurbs model comes with a normal, this smoothing coloring passes the model down in 4.1 and loses the normal information, which is irreversible, you can only provide the obj model and have him re-add the texture

Blender 4.0 is no longer actively maintained. It's either 4.2, or 4.3 what you should be using.

Check out Blender 4.2 LTS Beta and see if the issue is handled better now: builder.blender.org/download/daily/
