Drag assets directly into user asset library
I would have thought this is an obvious design choice, but why do we have to save the blender files with assets in them and manually drag them into the asset library directory using the file explorer?
Surely the Asset Browser UI should allow us to drag assets from the current blend file into the user asset library directly without having to manually move the blend file over ourselves?

actually this makes the asset browser completly useless for me, I have no clue who made such a stupid decision... once again blender does everything not like all other programs. Like banning select through... its HORRIBLE.
I was thinking exactly the same thing... It's such a frustrating design choice
How would you do it?
I am not sure if I understand the question correctly but, I want to add something to the asset browser without saving any blend file. Blender could automatically do that, or everything is going to be saved in an "asset library file" ? just like in EVERY OTHER PROGRAM
I agree. As it is now it's just too cumbersome to use. I'm ok with adding a few files in the setup menus so I can specify where my assets go. But apart from that I just want to right click an asset and send it to a specific category and not having to close my current file and copy past and what not.
Hmm perhaps it could be improved - but try to keep the comments civil, remember you're getting this for free, and if you want to fix it you're welcome to contribute yourself. You can see a more detailed explanation of the decision here: docs.blender.org/manual/en/latest/files/asset_libraries/introduction.html in particular
Asset pushing is desirable. Because of the questions above, it is unknown how to implement this well, in a way that still allows artists control over their assets. In the short term what I'd wish they would do is automatically treat all .blend files in the same folder as the current .blend as an asset library.
This is likely going to happen but not any time soon. The way Blender works currently they don't want it manipulating files without actually opening the file in the full UI or something along those lines. They'll eventually make a 2nd background program to facilitate doing what you describe.
Please keep the limited workforce and limited resources in mind as you make your complaints. There's practically only 1 and a half people working on the asset browser (and 1 person who just volunteered today ). If you want more people working on more things faster please encourage every Blender user you know to donate a few dollars to the fund. If all 612,253 readers of the /r/Blender subreddit made a single $2 donation they'd be able to hire several more people.
How would this work? Using the current system, you can save multiple .blend files into a single directory each containing completely different things, and Blender simply appends them. It's essentially an extension of the append system.
If you want to use an asset on any Blender file you choose, the file it belongs to must be in that directory. Are you proposing that somehow a user should be able to drag an asset into the browser, and Blender makes a new unique .blend file in that directory for it?
