Include Juan Pablo's 2499 DRT in blender's list of DRTs
Hello,
I'm a 3D artist using blender for over 6 years, 3 of which professionally.
with the recent blender updates we've seen the recent arrival of ACES 1.3 and 2.0 view transforms. however I would like to propose yet another.
to quickly show why I believe this is necessary, we can take a look at these comparison images.
Here are my issues with the current roster which I hope are non-subjective
ACES 1.3 has poor management of wide gamut colours and aggressive contrast curve (both addressed in ACES 2.x)
ACES 2.0 has weird breakage and banding on gradients (you can see it clearly on the fire image) it's also missing the nice chroma skews present in JP2499 and ACES1.3. (chroma skews are necessary for the proper depiction of fire and taillights etc.)
AgX has great handling of wide gamut and smooth gradients, but as it's implemented in blender has massively dulled down the Chroma skews (especially if you compare it to the original incarnation of AgX on troy sobotka's github github.com/sobotka/SB2383-Configuration ) which as stated are necessary
I believe 2499 ( github.com/JuanPabloZambrano/DCTL/tree/main/2499_DRT ) has the pros of all and the cons of none, for these reasons:
-has been tried and tested on many productions (see the github for projects that used JP2499) -has pleasing chroma skews (better than blender AgX or ACES2.x) -has non aggressive contrast curve (better than ACES1.x) -no banding on gradients (better than ACES) -handing of extreme values (better than ACES 1.x)
it's also based heavily on blender's AgX, which should make implementation smoother.
Thanks for considering. (images are in the order ACES 1, 2 AgX, and JP2499)
