Cycle Active Object Selection

TL;DR

Use Ctrl + Scroll to cycle the active object.

The Problem

You've made a selection of objects, but the active object is not the one you wanted.

Right now, you have to:

  • Ctrl + Select it visually in the viewport which is problematic in dense scenes
  • Or find it in the Outliner
    • Sometimes involves guesswork
    • Slow
    • Involves scrolling and locating objects in the list

The Solution

Cycle the active object between selected objects with Ctrl + Scroll
(no default binding in Object Mode)

You get immediate visual feedback in the viewport — perfect.

For my own purposes, I've made an add-on for this.
A message in the status bar also shows which active object is currently chosen.

I generally agree that there should be "Cycle Active Object" operator, but Ctrl+scroll should be for something more important, or left unset by default so user could set it to whatever he likes (eg. Cycle Active Through Objects).
