Maya Navigation + Blender shortcuts
Hi,
i have mentioned this before in a different place but now it would be good to talk about it here. i'd like an option to change Blenders navigation method to Maya, BUT to keep all the blender shortcuts. i Use Maya everyday in the games industry and it is a pain to not have this as a Present in Blender for easy switching from the place of work to personal projects at home. to get around this i have before now used this tutorial link
this does the job but is not great having to do this manually.
Rotate View = ALT + Left Mouse button
Move View = ALT + Middle Mouse button
Dolly View = ALT + Right Mouse button
Edit Mode fix
Edge Loop Selection change = Double Click + Alt
I prefer Maya's Navigation to all i have used, i have used MAX for Years and even in that i like to switch it over to maya's navigation. it just feels less clunky and IMHO is becoming a standard for many 3D apps.
This is not a I hate blender navigation methods post, but there should be a present for this for just changing the navigation but keeping the shortcuts.
Thanks
P

I agree with you, because Blender already has a Maya (and 3Dsmax) input preset, why not take it a step further? I ended up using the video you pointed to when I first started using Blender. The fact of the matter is, Blender is not being used as an Industry standard yet. The more it creates an ease of transition back and forth to software that is, the better off it will be, imo. That is, within reason, obviously, not modeling the entire program after say 3Dsmax, or Maya etc. Having 3dsmax and Maya navigation methods as options on the other hand is within reason. This will allow working professionals who must use Maya/Max at their job to quickly get into Blender.
Paul, as a side note, take a look at MyAlt (for both Maya and Blender) free on Gumroad, a Maya navigation enhancement that you might be interested in.
I understand you friend, fortunately, I think you will see a type of interaction in Blender 2.8, "Industry Standard Keymap" this will be very useful for professionals who do not work only in Blender, and that causes great annoyance when having to change interaction when you change tools like the game engine, texturing software, photometry, etc. I would also prefer that it be by default because it would even be very positive for beginners since they would not only learn Blender, but also, the type of interaction that is usually used in the rest of the softwares. developer.blender.org/T54963

I don't use Maya, or Max, or anything else. I don't have a problem with the navigation as it is now.
well some of us have to and so having an option for those that would like this would be nice. i'm sure a preset addition would take a coder about 5 mins to write, set up and add in. not a big task tbh.
It would take 10 years or so for the Foundation to realize that the time has come. Just like the Right-Click Select (absolute) insanity. "Industry standard" layout failed miserably. Pretty much no one uses it (but could), and nobody will. You can just rip it away, and make those exact 4 changes topic starter proposed. Because I can't do without them.
EDIT: Yes, I know I can edit my layout the way I want, and I meant what I have done it already with mine. And tons of other people has to do the same again and again.
