UV crease for when you want to stop subdivision modifier messing up textures without distorting the mesh.

Sometimes you need to use a subdivision modifier on a curved mesh that has two or more materials applied to it.

The only way to stop the subdivision modifier messing up the uv's is to apply a edge crease weight to the boundary edge between the two materials. This works, but causes a harsh sharpening in the geometry, so a good solution would be an additional edge weight called uv crease, which creases just the uv's and not the geometry. So effectively the geometry would still move, but the uv's would stay in place...I guess you'd need to subdivide with catmull clark to get the correct shape, and then subdivide it a second time on the original mesh using simple mode, and then shrinkwrap the simple mode one back onto the catmull clark version under the hood?

It's possible to turn off subdividing UVs in the subsurf modifier. Also, if your suggestion were implemented, it would need to work on UV edges rather than mesh edges, since each mesh edge has two UV edges (each face has a UV vertex on its corner) .
