Beveling on tight round corners

Screenshot_2.png

This problem has been around for so long, It is a pretty simple shape where beveling on tight corners will give apparent artifact, like the image i show above.

This is how the algorithm works for now...you need to dial in your settings or build your mesh around the limitations of bevel so the topology will support this type of operation. If you have a proposal for an alternative algorithm that allows this bevel without issues (maybe a paper or open-source code?) please suggest it!

Does 3DS Max, Modo or any other 3D software resolve this exact bevel without any issues? It would help to provide this info if so. Seeing it in action in another software lets the team know that it's possible. Otherwise, developers can't really do much about proposals that amount to "this doesn't work properly, fix it". What you've shown seems like it is just the result of bad topology.

this isn't a proposal- it's a complaint. what should the correct behavior be? how would the geometry look if you hand-beveled it? mock something up, propose something.

I imagine end result should be something like this . Also distance between 2 bevels can vary a lot and has big effect on complexity in this example.

I wonder if algorithm that can intelligently stitch concave and convex bevels together even exist. Maybe there is solution in some cad software?
