Option to Retain Camera Position When Changing Workspaces
Right now when changing workspaces, in addition to the whole UI layout changing (which is what we want) the camera position also changes and is recorded with each workspace. This is a bit annoying if you're jumping between workspaces like Shading, Layout, Asset Browser, Geometry Nodes, and constantly having to move the camera back to where you were in the previous workspace.
Can we have an option to disable this behaviour?
I understand this request would be somewhat complicated to implement. Because of the way Blender works. Each workspace layout can have multiple 3D views.
My proposal is:
-
Add an option to Blender's settings to "Retain Camera Position when Changing Workspaces".
-
Whenever changing between two workspaces with 3D viewports, the largest viewports are considered 'the main ones', and the camera position is transferred between them.

if the user view position data was actually exposed some how we could probably setup a driver and use it in all 3d viewports as desired.
personally I'd want a command to copy and paste the viewport position to other viewports as I need it
Until it's in blender defaults you can use this to keep the workspaces view and, optionally, the settings in sync: blenderartists.org/t/synchronize-workspaces-blender-add-on/1356695
