Unify cache settings for all types of physics

Why base settings of physics so scattered? The things like stat and end of simulation, speed and directory for files - can be same for all type of physics, and can be looks the same.

This is how they looks like: alt text

All same settings in one place. But if you want to redefine it for current simulation - unclick Use Global Cache Settings

I remember I read of a physics library like that: a unified system for many simulations: cloth, smoke fluids etc... but I can't remember the name, sorry
this is another one projectchrono.org/

you forgot to show us the global cache settings panel
by the way, different cache and different length os silmulations (which are still there in your proposal) are useful when you don't need a simulation to run for the whole shot: imagine a camera moving from a sink where water is flowing (fluid sim) to a window where a curtain is moved by the wind (cloth), then out of the window where a flag is moving...etc... many simulations in one shot but you need them only in the frames they are in the camera view (well maybe the sink has some reflections... d'oh!)

@: If you want - unclick "Use global cache settings" and set different length, speed, etc...

The other issue is that even if the settings were unified in this way, the cache data itself would still be stored separately since I believe the data is formatted differently depending on the type of simulation. A more useful (and more complex) ask would be to have the cache data itself unified so different physics simulations could actually interact with one another in a meaningful way. Until that happens, then I fear that something like this would be merely window dressing that hides the fact that the caches are actually separate.
