Urgently needed baking improvements
So I never really had trouble with baking maps, even with baking between objects or UV maps, but today with latest Blender 3.2 I actually do have huge problems.
Trying to bake grayscale displacement data that is plugged into the color node of the material to a texture using a secondary uv map. I have NO CHANCE of accomplishing this atm.
First, I created a second uv map and the displacement/material switches to the second map as soon as I unwrap it, even if the uv map isn't even activated, which makes NO SENSE at all. So second time I create a new uv map and unwrap the original first uv map and that actually is working as my material strangely always uses the new second uv map. But I have no chance of getting the normal color (diffuse) output to be baked from the mesh to the uv map I need. Always getting a black output no matter how I proceed.
So my three possible solutions:
- Improve the baking section: Add selection boxes in the baking section where one can choose and set the source mesh, target mesh, source uv map, target uv map, texture to bake to.
- Add UV Map selection possibility to the texture-coordinate node. This way I could set the displacement data to use one uv map and the texture I wanna bake to to the other uv map, easy.
- As you already have cycles code in place that calculates the displacement of the object, isn't that code re-usable to provide a one-button-solution for baking the displacement into the mesh directly and then disconnect the displacement node inside the material?
As Unreal Engine and soon probably other engines allow for million poly meshes, a one button solution to bake displacement without having to bake thousands of textures first would make A LOT of sense here!!!
Cheers from Switzerland ;)

Use the UV Map node to specify which UV map you want to use in a texture.
For the rest, see the baking overhaul ticket developer.blender.org/D3203
Wow this means it gets even better <3 perfect!! didn't see this one yet. gonna test if this updated code runs already right away :D
100 points for uv map node hahaha :'D never seen that one yet either and have baked A LOT of textures already, perfect, thanks ;)
The baking overhaul isn't published in Blender yet, it's being worked on.
