Ctrl S Save operation performance optimization
When the blend porject gets very big, like several gigabytes and with multiple scenes with tons of textures and heavy geometries, the Save operation can get very slow, reaching up to 10 seconds to save a file, during which Blender is unresponsive. Is there anything can be done to make this process more optimized? Like maybe use more CPU cores or or a background save function that doesn't freeze up blender when saving.

It depends, do you have multiple scenes all in one file?
Maybe it would be better to make a separate file for each scene.
Linking is also a way of getting projects a bit smaller, so models are in their own file and the final project is just referencing them, so changes in the original file also port over to your current one.
Then the usual using M.2 NVME SSD (preferably PCI-E 4.0 over SATA M.2 drives with SLC instead of QLC), in really weird demanding cases, making a drive with memory e.g. Ram-Disk (and the prices for memory are currently to the moon) can work as well, but it gets erased every reboot so you would need a backup from RAM-Disk to hard drive / ssd drive.
Next would preventing from saving so called Save Versions in the settings. Preferences->Save & Load and set Save Versions to 0 so it does not keep 1 older file (at your own risk, if you notice you messed up and clicked just save you have no backup). Currently it keeps 1 older version each time you manually save. (the .blend1 files in your project directory is the extra older save)
In Blender saving .blend is just memory dump, there is not much to optimize here. And software must be frozen, because You dont wanna save corrupted file, because You modified part of memory while saving.
You can try enabling/disabling "Compress File" option. (It might slow down or speed up saving depending on CPU and drive speed)
Way to avid longer saving might be depending on what You are working on is: Work on multiple blend files and eg. link heavy models from other blend files.
