Add an option to stretch content of Sequencer on maximzing area

Summary

I liked the old stretching zoom behavior when Maximizing area / entering Focus (Fullscreen) Mode in Sequencer and would love to see it back as an option. Potentially, it may be even introduced for other editors (the closest case for now is Auto Zoom for Sequencer Preview)

Background

In Blender 4.5 behavior on resizing the VSE was changed to shows more channels/frames, instead of stretching the existing view.

Review

When I’m working with many strips in small editor area with minimum zoom it is extremely practical for me to be able quickly maximize the working area to better see keyframes and waveforms.

When maximizing the area I do not want to see more channels, I want to maximize the area with all its content to have a better view. With current behavior Maximizing for me defeats the purpose.

Even though it is possible to work without maximizing in is not as convenient as having two modes to quickly change between.

Conclusion

While in general new behavior may be more expected for most of the users and more similar to other software, the special case of Maximizing area is absent from most of the other software and should indeed maximize the area. So having an option in Editor View menu to change behavior would satisfy the both ways: when user want to see more channels and time or when user wish to maximize and stretch areas content.

Sad thing, is that people who did not use Sequencer before this change do not even know what they could have had.
