Object cross-section rendering
ALT+B is an awesome feature, but we can't render it! It would be great if blender had some kind of object to create cross section of models that we could render. This is very important for architects and architectural visualization.
I know there is workarounds using materials, but a simple object for cross section that we could turn on/off and animate would be perfect!

this is what you need bu unfortunately it is still for maya only

True Cross sections can already be accomplished with camera settings. Granted it doesn't have the ability to extract quick chunks like "Alt B".
To do camera cross sections.
With an Orthographic camera: Remember, in ortho mode camera position is just about direction of viewpoint and clipping origin, not what your field of view is (this is set by "Orthographic Scale").
Set camera "Clip Start" and "Clip End" to get the cross section depth you desire.
Distances are relative to the camera origin and are along the centerline of the camera. Basically perpendicular planes.
Clip Start says hide anything closer than this. Clip End says hide anything further away than this.
You can even do a CAT scan type of sectional, by setting a very narrow clip space and animating the camera through the object.
Hi, thanks for the replay! But i already know about the camera clip abilities.
But the cliping is done in a perpendicular plane to the view. I would want to control the section plane so I could change the place of the camera but not the section. In Sketchup, for instance, we create a vertical plane cutting a house and visualize it in isometric perapective.
Have you tried a cube with a Union modifier?
Or perhaps a difference modifier!
It’s a way to do it but we would have to apply modifiers to each object on the scene. A section plane (object?) would me active for everything on the scene. Ideally ot should have display options for the sectioned areas of the objects. * @ammusionist *
