Shrink & Grow Edge Loops & Rings Selection
Hello
i think that growing edge loops only could be really useful in some cases take a look please
a new shortcut like <kbd>alt</kbd>+<kbd>-</kbd>, <kbd>ctrl</kbd>+<kbd>alt</kbd>+<kbd>-</kbd> similar to the actual shrink/grow selection could fit right there in our workflow

Already exist for 2.7X and not only grow/shrink for loop/ring. Check this. Here and here . I use it for a lot in my work. It need just rework for 2.8X. IMHO this functionality have to be included in to core Blender mechanics.
* @forestgumpovu4 * nice, seems dead tho
* @IIIFGIII * The good link for 2.8+ is this: sourceforge.net/p/blendamajigs/wiki/Loopanar/
After using it I can confirm that the Loopanar addon on Sourceforge linked by Ge Ro has some great edge/ring selection tools.
Growing/shrinking loops/rings (as well as bounded (partial) edge loop and edge ring selection in the Loopanar addon) are fundamental methods of selection that should ship with Blender. It's baffling that they don't.
Grow/Shrink selection along loop/ring could potentially be added as a flag that can be set on bpy.ops.mesh.select_more and bpy.ops.mesh.select_less
Bounded (partial) loop/ring selection could potentially be added to bpy.ops.mesh.shortest_path_select as a flag ("stay in loop").
I SO wish blender edge selection was like 3dsMax. Select an Edge, Shift select an edge farther down the loop and all the edges are selected between the two selections.
* @othoap * could you show a gif ?
* @dodododorian * Yes, I will post something.
* @dodododorian * How do you share a gif? I'm having a hard time understanding how to set that up. Just posting the link to the gif doesn't seem to load it in the comment section. You have to click the link. Would you mind explaining >.<
* @daniellapalme * "! [image] (url)" just remove the spaces, also use screen to gif toc reate gif, its amazing
* @dodododorian * Yea screen to gif is great that's what I use! I got it working now. I just needed to upload to giphy instead of imgur. Cheers
* @othoap * Lol That's already there! Click the first edge, and then select the second with CTRL. You're welcome
* @theobairon16 * The request is about how to grow a selection in two specific ways, not how to do a path select. Thanks for loling, maybe don't be so pedant next time, it doesn't help anybody.
* @-L0Lock- * Well, I was answering his comment, and not the post (since everyone else has already said something about it). Thanks for trying to make me look like a d*ck, and maybe try to read the comment someone's replying to next time. It doesn't help anybody.
So loling at people is a nice behavior now? Interesting. I did not try anything, it's all done by yourself.
* @-L0Lock- * I don't know what part of the world you're from, but laughing isn't always mockery. Maybe people have been loling you mockingly all your life.
Interesting as I said, now you go personal. Have a good day o/
* @theobairon16 * Please stop notificating me about flood here. I posted links to addon which do what here suggested at first day it was written. But I still receive notification about all this offtop shit.
You should be able to turn off notification for a specific topic via this button:
But half the time it doesn't work, so... Sorry x)
Totally agree with that, some people comes to chat asking about that.
If using Blender's words, it would be some "grow loop selection" and "grow ring selection" I guess.
How is this not a thing yet? This is modeling 101 basic tools. Yes, we have Select Active which can get us halfway there if we do the proper prep work, but it's impossible to combine loop and ring functions this way.
Being able to grow and shrink along loops and rings is an essential feature needed for complex elements.

* @othoap * you can use ctrl with that, but still i really like the fact that its interactive
* @dodododorian * WOW just tried Selete, Ctrl, Select somewhere else, and it works , WOW. When transitioning from Max to blender I ask people many times about that and all said NO. I also remember trying to make it work, with no luck. Why dose it work now? Oh well thank you I love that feature.
* @othoap * Sadly I found this dosen't work with EDGES
