Drag and Drop Import for Obj's, FBX's, DAE's, glTF's
Hello. i know drag'n'drop for .blend files it's a bit tricky , but for the rest of the formats from the title, can we get drag'n'drop support to import them into Blender ?
I'm using Modo at work and it's very easy to drag'n'drop everything into the scene . Everything works there, 3d formats, images, presets etc :)
Maybe we can get something like that in Blender too . I think it will be very useful .

I would go further, shell compatibility to open file formats directly from the OS. So files extensions are associated with Blender
It would be great. Just drag & drop in to viewport automatically call popup with import settings.
Here's a little video of how it works in C4d. The appropriate dialog opens depending on the filetype:

yeah it's important feature and i think also the new asset manager should also be able to do it ,like filter the type of files you want to import then just double click
Drag&Drop is now implemented :)
Currently its under development at projects.blender.org/blender/blender/pulls/106871
Oh, yes, please, let's recommend this to Blender! ^_^ Hopefully, they'll incorporate that feature!
please
+1
All great ideas . The thing is that, this drag & drop workflow it's super user friendly and doing this in all the Softwares we use ( Modo, Maya, 3dsMax, Photoshop, ETC ) becomes something of a standard import workflow .
I've tried to teach people at work Blender and the drag and drop was something pointed out the first :) .
Perhaps there can be a plug-in parameter that defines a file extension and receiving function so that if you drag/drop a file into a Blender window, it checks for a plug-in registered to handle the file in that context and calls the specified function. (Like how an Android app can register to handle a specific activity) That way you don't get Blender's memory overburdened with importers that you don't use.
TLDR; Plug Ins should be able to handle Drag/Drop.
At the moment cannot do this, except that we bypass the .blend file asociation/structure. For Blender´s current UI, "drag /drop" means: "Check if it´s on a collection. Check if it´s on Data level, Check if it´s on Layer, THEN import". While this remains like that, it´s just wait-and-see until we inherit library managment....
