Numbering of subdividing Bones

when dividing a bone ,

the re-numbering becomes somewhat illogical.

The original bone to be subdivided should at least have the highest number because the numbering will then be uniform from top to bottom. It would be perfect and desirable from bottom to top. I always try out problems before and work with default names for simplicity.

In pretty much every Rig I've seen, in Blender, Maya and 3DS, first bone in hierarchy is the lowest number (if any) and the number increments on each new node down the hierarchy.

Typically the fingers:.

  • metacarpal = finger 1
  • proximal phallange = finger 2
  • intermediate phallange = finger 3
  • distal phallange = finger 4

You can subdivide, tab out , tab back into edit mode, then either run a script or do batch rename with ctrl+f2

import bpy

bones =bpy.context.selected_bones
i = 1

for bone in bones:
    name = "bone" + ".00" + str(i)
    bone.name = name
    i += 1
    ```
the script goes through the selected bones and renames them
a format string would work better here if going aboe 99 :)
