Automatically Prevent Intersections
3D artists spend a lot of time trying to make sure their objects are touching, but not intersecting. In complex scenes this can become a giant pain.
This would be a toggle that you could turn on or off. It would work on Location, Rotation and Scale.
This could be under the Snap menu, but it wouldn't be a traditional snapping feature - it doesn't automatically move the object for you, it just stops you from moving it beyond a certain point
(Note: the video is fake. It's just a screen recording running backwards)

This kind of collision detection is the kind of thing that's intended for the interaction engine in future releases of Blender.
* @Jason van Gumster * Cool! It seems extremely useful, especially for animation and rigging
Would be a great addition to the snap tool.
Truespace had this setting toggle, collide with floor, collide with others.. it was surprisingly very useful.
Specially useful when doing layout.
I think this paid addon does what you're asking for. blendermarket.com/products/interactive-physics-editor
Have you got this working with 1.93? I bought it and can't get it to work at all. Crashes Blender immediately.
make me think about meshlint. could be on option in it. and meshlint an official addon. I mean indicate intersecting faces
Ssssssnap! ;)
"3D artists spend a lot of time trying to make sure their objects are touching, but not intersecting" ....really? :)
* @giuseppe * really really?
* @m.brockers * :D ok
So are we talking collision detection? Is there an advantage over a collision detection modifier?
No, this is more like a snapping feature. It doesn't have anything to do with physics simulations.
In some cases you could just run a simulation and drop a bunch of objects on top of each other, but this is a) slow and computationally intensive b) gives you less control
The other way of preventing intersections is to go into side view, enable wireframe view and then move each object in place manually. This is fine, but it takes a lot of clicks.

I think collision detection as a function can be implemented in a way that simulation is not incorporated. Perhaps I'm missing understanding your description, but if for example your are moving an object close to another, it could simply stop moving on contact, the mouse could stop or not; letting you know of the the situation. * @richardhnoble *
Yes, in that sense it is a kind of collision detection. But I was imagining a kind of global setting (similar to the snap settings, or to proportional editing) that would apply to every object in your scene, and could be toggled on or off as needed. Rather than something you'd have to manually apply to every individual object. Hope that makes sense :) * @ingapambi *
Yes, all is clear now thanks. I can support this good idea.* @richardhnoble *
* @ingapambi * in a static way yeas
yeah along with the automerge editing, x symetry editing, if this would be implemented should be on the header, maybe on snap
