Merge Dopesheet and NLA ... and maybe timeline and Graph editor

With 2020 being the big animation boost for Blender - here's my two cents: Merge Dope Sheet and NLA… and for that matter the timeline and maybe graph editor as well.

As you create keyframes, in the dopesheet they appear with a box round them labeled with the action name. Image

If you click on that little arrow, or press Tab. you get a more detailed view of the action. Image You get to see indevidual keyframes for X,Y,Z, all the bones of an armature, all the paramaters of a camera, etc…

And, as this is also the NLA, you can dso things like create duplicate instances of the action, set them to loop, fade into each other, create more actions … Image … but at any point, one action for each object is highlighted, and if you add a keyframe by any method, that’s the action the keyframe will go in.

I think this will allow a more fluid transition between editing actions and editing keyframes, but still allow people who have not yet got their head round the NLA to keyframe happily.

And as for the curve editor… There could also be a button the view the selected action as curves!
