New logic for origin for objects - as reference for scene
Regarding this issue: projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/114546
- Right now duplicated object, eg. Cube to Cube.001 and transform origin from one front corner to back on Cube.001 impacting location on Cube, and this same transform origin from one front corner to back on Cube impacting location on Cube.001. It's looks like normal behavior, but this changing everything and not seeing good option to operate on object to change origin to operate eg. with snap corner, edge on other site.
- To reach this function it required operate with empty as parent and object as child.
- But why? Why duplicated object must impacting on location as reference? Why object not have other "origin" as variable eg. reference that always can be like a "empty" and object parent for this, and related to this normal origin as child? Coz in future, to prevent this type situation as located and anchored object, always any object and duplicated must be related with some empty as reference point as "neutral" (in case this can be default implemented..)
By my opinion, due this algorithm user not reaching any value or functions as additional value but problems and option to broken some logic around object especially when working collections or game, kinematics, etc.
Other cases where origin is lack or not exist is collection

The response you received to the bug report is expected, but nonetheless the situation is a complete fail.
"When you change the origin you are editing the geometry of the active object and this geometry is the same in the linked objects."
Except you aren't editing geometry. You're editing the position Origin. Which is why (i would guess) the button says AFFECT ONLY ORIGINS.
Duplicated objects (instances) should maintain true vertex world position, and have their origin moved respectively as is done on the master object.
Isn't that solved by enabling Affect Only Parent ?
For me not working.. duplicated not parented.
