Drag .OBJ (and everything else) to Blender window for automatic import
Blender already has the functionality for drag-and-drop importing image files from windows folders, and drag-and-drop 3D data is a very useful feature for Autodesk's Maya.
A decision has to be made on what should happen when .blends (and other possible open-able project files) are dragged in - should they be opened or imported? As of now .blends are opened (which can come in handy), but is this the best option? Should an options-window pop up asking what the user wants to happen?

You never want to import a blend file into an other, that's what Append is for, so you can take exactly what you need and not drag things as brushes and things that by default already live in the blendfile. Though i agree that some other type of files would be nice to drag and drop to your scene, I'd rather have a unified Import window when you choose the file type when you're in the import browser instead of before hand, that way you could assign a hotkey to the import panel and then choose what format you'll be importing.
The way many professionals using Autodesks' Maya handles this issue is that they select exactly the datablocks/nodes/materials etc. they need and export selected as a maya binary project files for import. Blender users/developers can make a decision if this method is better or if manual selection via. appending is the way to go.
I don't dissagree and it took me a while on getting used to it, but this way you sort of "skip" a step by instead of cleaning up a file and saving it, just grabbing what you need from it, I know it's a "backwards" approach, but it works nice... and pls don't giveme that "professionals using autodesk blabla" that doesn't make your argument better, also Blender has a different parardigm from Maya, be it better or worse that's just a matter of who is using it, and If you want to do things the way maya does, then get maya... sorry if i sound harsh, i just mean learn how the software you're using is meant to be used then try to improve it under it's own paradigms.
I understand, I apologize if I came across condescending, I read "not drag things as brushes and things" and assumed I needed to say it. I am mainly a Blender user myself, though I caught on a couple of industry tendencies from my teachers.
Yeah, I get you, I worked on maya about 6years before getting seriously into blender, and for probably the first 2 years i also tried to do in blender as i did in maya until i got that the paradigm is different, and so some stuff have to be thought of the blender way, like in our other discussion about G-G, which is something that definitelly is the way blender already handles the same problem in other areas.
Would be nice to import a large amount of Fbx/obj files and quickly import them from the explorer window- right now a bit of a herculean task to bring in files that consist of 50 seperate files 😅
Would love to have this. Tracking them down in the browser when I already have them ready to go in explorer is a pain.
I think this is a good ideea. Drag to import -OBJ, FBX, DAE files . I know Blend files are different but the rest it's a good ideea to import them that way .
