Is RRay opensource? how many developers work is need? code can be reused outside Amd card? there are real advantage for not Amd GPU users? what percentage of Blender users will benefit of this feature?

* @NiCapp * 1) its going to be opensource 2) no idea 3) its not amd specific i guess 4) it should benefit all gpus specialy one which does not support optix (correct me if i am wrong) 5) that depend on how many of them have non cuda, optix card Lastly it was a question from me not a feature req Thanks for the reply :)

* @Vehdathamid * you might put it in the dev forum, with a link to the opensource project, to draw attention to it

* @NiCapp * This is a library like Intel EMBREE that Blender have recently implemented that accelerate rendering with CYCLES. This one could use the GPU's from AMD but require OPENCL. (V2)

As currently, the new Version 4.0 of this lib is NOT open source. Only the version 2 is.

This will better if we wait a bit and wait that the DEVS complete the transition to Vulkan that will support much more in the future... (like GPU Rendering and real time raytracing if your card support it)

EMBREE accelerated lots of things with CYCLES in V2.9...

* @Christian Clavet * thankyou I know about the embree but the main limitation was that its for cpu only at least for now Radeon rays 4.0 is going to be opensource in future from what I have read and I did not know devs are porting to vulkan thats great can you plz tell me where I can learn more about it Thank you!

* @Vehdathamid * Found out that someone created a Blender Branch that would use EMBREE with the GPU:
developer.blender.org/diffusion/B/browse/soc-2019-embree-gpu/

For Vulkan, right now this is still a work in progress. If you need to have GPU rendering with Blender, your AMD card need to support OpenCL for Cycles, or use another renderer like AMD ProRender:
community.amd.com/community/radeon-pro-graphics/blog/2020/03/12/amd-radeon-prorender-is-ready-for-blender-281

Radeon Ray is in the package and is used with the ProRender renderer.

Here are more information on the work on the GPU Module being done by the Blender development team (Mostly Clément Foucault):
wiki.blender.org/wiki/Source/EEVEE_%26_Viewport/GPU_Module
and
developer.blender.org/T68990

Using GPU Rendering and using the RT features thru Vulkan is not mentioned, but the dev want to port the current features first. We'll see once the basic port is done.

But since it will be possible with Vulkan, this will surely be asked features... From what I've read on it so far, they want to switch from one backend to another to maintain compatibility, so GL will stay there, but we'll be able to switch from one to the other.

Vulkan is the way to go, as it's the future, and allow so much. Plus for Apple users, there is a wrapper for it that convert Vulkan to metal (MoltenVK), So this will benefit everybody.
