Your UI looks amazing, can you share the build with us, I want it! That needs to be in 3.0!

  • Nurb improvements coming?
  • Are texure nodes being fixed?
  • Can you merge the SSGI eevee build of Blender to main, it's such a good add-on it needs to be part of Blender for ever!

I think the developer himself would have to submit the patch for the native integration to happen.

XanzulsCG Author

Hey Pablo,

Very excited for 3.0 and can’t wait. And Blender 3.0 sounds like huge, so naturally, a lot of people are expecting a lot of feature updates in 3.0 and most of them are not super advanced stuffs but more like features that were missing in Blender for years. Since 3.0 is such a major release, wouldn’t it be better to just take more time to add those features that have been requested trillions of times like – light linking, grouping, maybe an addon manager, better animation playback with high-poly etc? A lot of people are expecting really really big things from 3.0 and geometry nodes and Cycles X are definitely there but I think a lot of people would also benefit from these long requested features in 3.0 as well IMO. And people who use Blender for work would much rather prefer less releases with less bugs than frequent releases with more bugs and frequent UI changes which could be annoying for new people who wanna follow old tutorials etc.

Will Blender ever get deep-compositing support (as for rendering layers for deep compositing and not compositing in Blender)?

Don't agree with waiting more time for other features, especially because the ones you mentioned are really big projects that certainly cannot be done in a couple of months, the devs already delayed the release of 3.0 compared to the usual release calendar.

I do agree a lot on though on waiting more time for proper developing and testing of features, geez there are some releases where a new feature is only half-made and changes like 3 times or breaks something else.

Hey, when can we expect to see your Node design from today in your blender version in blender? Looks sooo good.

Hi. Please do not remove default categories from asset browser, you get tired of creating your own catalogs in each new version of the blender (and in each blend file if it actual info), and the stock categories were quite convenient, materials, objects and the rest sorted by themselves, otherwise you will have to do sorting yourself! And of course add catalogs will be useful for someone too, or you can make it optional.

Hello Pablo!

Hope you're having a fantastic Monday, I have a Question coming from the perspective of a Professional Automotive Visualization Artist working for one of the Major OEM's.

Do you foresee any changes in how Blender works with Groups/parented objects? Ignoring the usual points about Groups in blender, one thing I have noticed is that child objects are not highlighted when the parent is selected, so other than the relationship lines (which become unreadable in big files), there is no visual clues about what is affected by your selection.

This becomes a big issue when working with large data structures such as the ones I would expect at work. A car data set would consist of thousands of parented objects in a big tree, many layers deep. if i try to walk up and down the tree without using the outliner, when selecting an empty that represents a group in other software packages, I am unable to see the children that it affects.

It's often not practical to rely solely on the outliner as the structure/object names don't necessarily give you any information about what they are.

Maya for example by default, highlights any object that is a child of the one selected, maybe we could do the same? with a new colour for child objects, or reusing the selected colour like Maya does.

This is one of a few major points that holds me back from suggesting Blender at work, The software is fantastic and it's been so much fun to watch it grow over the past decade, there are just a few sticking points in my area of work that stop it being a viable solution.

That being said, Keep up the good work and I hope you have a great week!

Hi Pablo, I already asked this last week, but because you didn't get my question, I'm asking it again: For an addon project, I need to get the locations of the node sockets, so I'd suggest exposing this data to the Python API as read-only, so scripts can't accidentally mess up the drawing of the nodes.

I've already created a patch for this with a bit more details: developer.blender.org/D12695

Thanks for answering :)

Hello Pablo. When blender opens, we see this black box with whatever that text is. When we open softwares like photoshop or unreal engine we see the splash screens displayed when they are starting. Wouldn't it be cool that blender shows the splash screen when it starts. A new start for 3.0. See I really dont know what that black box does, I have just assumed that it is the process of blender starting or something like that. It might be some unavoidable thing. I dont know. So sorry if reading this comment was a waste of time.

Hi. Is there any chance we could get rid of the modifier stack and replace it with nodes. Having both adds a bit of confusion, and because nodes can branch off in multiple directions, the node workflow would add a lot of functionality that a top to bottom linear modifier stack cant offer. Having both is unnecessary; a bit like how we still have the ability to build materials in the properties panel...no one ever builds materials there, I think that should be dropped too.

Do you think we'll ever get to the stage where existing modifiers could be made entirely from nodes which users could modify to change their behaviour? Sort of like each modifier would be a node which can be opened up to reveal it's inner node tree. This is what makes the main node based software have limitless power.

Sir let me answer this shit for Pablo

  1. No, the modifier stack is good for the people who don't want to open up a whole new panel just to add 1 simple node, modifiers for the win.

  2. That's already a thing you numb nuts, you can literally already access geometry node groups in the modifier panel and you can MoDiFY to chAnge TheIR BeHaVioR from their

how dare you sir. If you were here I would be slapping you in the face with an empty leather glove and challenging you to a duel.

rippityhop

BOI I WOULD SLAP THE FUCKIN GOOFEY OUT OF YOU, I'D SLAP YOUR WEAVE OFF SO HARD YOU WOULD THINK C4D IS BETTER THAN BLENDER

hey, i'd slap you so hard than when you woke up your clothes would be even more out of fashion :D

Hello Pablo,

hopefully you are alright. I am enjoying your weekly shows a lot. It's so nice to see that you share the dedication and love of the whole blender spirit. Thanks a lot to the Developers (and Ton) for creating this wonderful piece of software. Maybe you can answer my question because I have not seen any news to the whole topic for a longer time and BCon2 of Blender 3 suggests that there are no new features coming for Blender 3. Library Override - developer.blender.org/T73318 Milestones 4,5 have to be successfully worked on to get a proper override of a material for a linked asset/item/rig. Is there by any chance a schedule for the milestones at all? I am super happy and thankful for all the new features and Cy-X in Blender 3 but right now there seems to be zero chance to work with a linked character and change/animate a material. So changing the iris color of a character can only achieved by appending the character + rig what makes iterations or changes to the caracter while animating a very time-consuming part and work can not be split nicely.

Additional questions:

  1. How much €€€€ needs the BF to get another senior developer on board? It would be nice to see on the website when there is enough money donated to get some more support for the Blender-Devs.
  2. Would there be the possibility to get a Blender Studio Workflow Breakdown - Maybe like a small Documentary? There are some nice articles on Blender Dev and Blender Cloud but they are kinda specific for a particular topic. It is pretty hard to convince people that have been working with Max+Maya for years to go full Blender. Would be epic to just drop them a video of you guys and prrof them wrong. There are people that are not believing - they just have to see it black on white.

@Pablo The strip lock was placed in that position by the former head of UI: developer.blender.org/rBS1e7c3a159fd2ca42fd5688be067008ef0d2c03df

Hi again. Currently we have vertex colours, weights, uv maps, normals, shape keys...which are really just attributes.

Rather than them being top level components of blender, if we got rid of them all, and just set them up as default attributes, we'd be able to use any attribute anywhere, such as in modifiers as a replacement for vertex colours, or as inputs for shaders rather than only currently having the ability for vertex colours.

Hey Pablo! Can we increase name size to 128 as it was done for strips? blender.community/c/rightclickselect/gSfbbc/

Hola Pablo, thank you for keeping us update week after week, really appreciated :)

I have two questions if I may ask:

1- There is an old bug in VSE where the Blend modes are broken, there is a task from last year but no reviewers are assigned. Would be great to tackle it for 3.0 if possible. developer.blender.org/D7863

2- The implementation of Parallax Occlussion in Blender is depending on the Vulkan transition or there are other show stoppers that this is not revised to be merged? developer.blender.org/D9792

Would it be possible to poke some devs to take a look to those please?

Cheers.

Hi Pablo and Dalai!

A quick question about how the development works. When fixes are applied to older releases, like 2.83 lts, are these fixes automatically applied to the current development release as welll? And what about the oposite, would a fix on 3.0 be applied to 2.83, if it is relevant there?

The_Kalaakaar

Is cycles x still not supporting hair? Or is my computer a potato. When I try to put a hair particle system blender crashes.

scopelma

Hey Pablo and Dalai! Over time, many addons have become part of my workflow to extend Blender's functionality. However, this means that my N-panel has now become a bit of a mess. I cannot read any label of the tabs, as they are all cut short, and I can't re-order the tabs to my liking.

Do you have any plans or ideas for the N-panel? Are there any changes coming to it in the future? Right now, it is really difficult to use and read! Perhaps making the label of the tabs horizontal instead of vertical could be a work around.

Thank you and have a great evening!

daviddomingues_

Hey Pablo and Dalai!

I saw a Instagram stories on the official Blender account that looked like a mesh selection to animate rigs.

Could you tell us more about it? Please!!!

fasoric.vj

Hey Pablo, hope you are doing great :) Just a quick possible ui papercut / consistency issue: Given that motion blur rolling shutter has only 2 options, one of which is "none", shouldn't it be turned into a checkbox with something like a "use top to bottom rolling shutter" tooltip to be more consistent with the rest of blender? (At least as long as rolling shutter doesn't include more options like bottom to top etc, which isn't that needed anyway).

I opened a right click select post about this anyway: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/Og6B/

thecharacterhero

Hi Pablo!

How can I transfer a scene to you in Blender Demo: blender.org/download/demo-files/ Are there any criteria?

There are a lot of likes on this patch: developer.blender.org/D5336 , but it does not fully work in Blender because there were problems with the code. Is it worth waiting for this patch for version 3.0.

Does the number of likes affect anything?

Will the default theme that you fix be available by default in Blender? And will your dark theme be included in the official release?

I don't know why my comment is displayed like this.

Hey Pablo! I hope you're having a great Monday.

Regarding the geometry nodes fields dashed lined noodles, will there be an option to turn them off?

In my brief time using them, I feel like they add a lot of visual noise to the editor and I still don't know see the benefit of of knowing that a particular noodle is a fields noodle. I feel the diamond shaped input/output tells me all I need to know without being distracting.

viralbaal

Pablo, hello! the weirdest thing I ever met in Blender is working with Crease thru hotkeys. it has value from 0 to 1 obviously. And when I want to crease edge I press Alt+E and then 1. But if I want to unrease I have to press Alt+E and then -1 (wtf?) that's not so friendly. looks like it works as addition&subtraction.

blenux

Hi guys!

Just wanted to ask what is the library section on the experimental download site?

Also, could it be possible for you guys to check out the BforArtists fork of Blender sometime, just would like to see you views of it, no drama if not.

Thanks for your time.

Hi Pablo! Love what you do for the blender community! I would like to hear your thoughts about comparison I did between the denoisers in terms of quality. I used a method that popular in analyzing video compression quality. blender.community/c/today/7Awy/

Q: Is T82557 on hold for Cycles-X, or will it be integrated into the current Cycles engine?

alan.zirpoli

Hi Pablo! Hi Dalai Great Monday to you!

When working with multiple scenes, it's hard to quickly switch the scenes setting. Run a quick render preview by set render resolution, samples, bounces, file output, film setting etc and then jump to a final or even a mid level render preview requires a lot of click. there should be a quicker way to set all those options. Don't you think?

also about scenes, now when i duplicate a scene with the link scene option there is no way to unlink an object shared by the 2 scenes. The "make single user" command doesn't work anymore. even delete an object from a "linked duplicated" scene cause the object to be deleted from both...What happened? :D

And last...if I have an object hide in "render" but visible in viewport, when I preview the render in viewport i see that object. In blender 2.79 there was a button to sync that state while rendering in the viewport to see the result just as it would come out when press f12. Will it come back?

Thaaanks

Hi Pablo and Dalai! From the last geometry nodes video you showed the stable ID parameter. Is there a reason why it is not available in clear to the user? Sometimes it could be very useful.

Bye 👋👋

Hello Pablo!

Two questions, hopefully not to long to answer:

1- When do you think that the devs will tackle the issue of the jam-packed sidebar panel? Since it was introduced in 2.8 it hasn't changed, and when the bar is packed with add-ons it's literally a nightmare to dive into. Do you think that along with finding a proper solution, the add-on developers should be "educated" to use also other places for their add-ons? Half (if not more) of the add-ons that exist in Blender are put in that bar. It would be a good idea to have an "Add-ons" menu in the top bar, like many other softwares have a"Plugins" menu.

2- Is currently the Blender Animation Studio open to hire? If yes, is there a contact (email...) to write to?

Thanks and congratulations for 3.0!

costa

Hi Pablo, hope you're doing great! I wonder if today stream is from the studio !!

I remember this question being asked here many times (get ready) "When will edge groups be implemented?" I remember it was "promised" with geometry nodes. I was looking on dev talk and blender chat for an answer and got no answer, so I was wondering if you know?

Thank to you Pablo (and to the dev team) for your hard work with 172 livestreams!

Hello Pablo a few quick questions (some of them from the last week):

  1. I recently came across this shirt: twitter.com/IdoineTutorials/status/1431261751585222656 (image only: pbs.twimg.com/media/E9zc69QXoAAoWAT )

I think it looks really nice and I would love to buy some stylish blender gear. The current wear is a bit... boring? ...Let's say it could be better. Is there any place where such ideas are collected or maybe even voted on to see if the design could even be sold.

Last time you noticed the code quest badge. To be honest, I was just in for the shirt and the rocket-USB stick. That's a much nicer way to support blender with money in my opinion.

  1. Regarding donations:

Was, is or will there be a focus on making donations to blender tax deductable? I think in my country there could be a sneaky way around a fuzzy 'not really', but it would be the in the line of 'education for adults' and you would need the ministry of finance to play along.

  1. Is the discussion regarding blender versioning still alive?

In the past I heard some people write about the new versioning of blender and that they wish it would not advance with 3.0, 3.1, 3.2 etc. To be honest, I also kinda like the idea that every LTS ends with something-point-3. So 3.03, 3.13, etc.

  1. VSE talk

I'm interested in the VSE development. Is there any place where I can directly ask a developer? In my opinion the VSE has some parts that are really great and some that are really terrible. I have seen the bad parts been done much better in other software, but I'm not sure if these parts of the VSE are even considered problamatic or if they are meant to be that way. So I would like to poke a developer and see what they think about certain features.

  1. Using Linux (not so serious question):

You said that you used a system with PopOS for the streams in the past. Wouldn't it be much better for these streams to run on a system with Ubuntu MATE while drinking mate? ^^

Thanks for the stream and have a great week!

ponomarovmax

Hi Pablo!

What is the state of Blender Conference for this year? I know that offline format postponed for next year, but what about this year? Online format like last year or something new?

Also what can you say about vaccination of blender institute/studio team? Maybe it's a great idea to make Blender Conference 2022 for only vaccinated people?

vdovik44

Hey Pablo, with Russia from love :) on webpage "weekly update" for several weeks not publishing weekly reports from Pablo Dobarro and Sebastian Barschkis, they working hard, or on holiday or leave blender developmet team? I follow their projects and am very worried that the updates of the sculpt and simulation may freeze :(

Hello Pablo!

I was just curious about the limit on vertex layers. Is there a specific reason you can only add 8? Seems like an odd limit especially as we near 3.0 release and if I remember correctly it hasn't been changed since like 2006 ( developer.blender.org/rBd24597c8a3bfaeded266d9c86b524d4f15011e52 ). Love the show and everything you all do there at the foundation!

Cheers
