It is not exactly clear to me what you would like to do...maybe look up Instancing in the Blender Manual if you want something like this: {attachment Screenshot_from_2020-06-25_19-03-13png} There are other ways, it all depends on what you want.
* @martinbergwerf * the op (original poster) asked how (and if) in Blender we can duplicate an object along a path or a profile without any distortion, there is nothing difficult to understand.
The pic you posted should be the answer, the instancing is explained here
but sometimes it doesn't give the expected result because not always the copies are aligned along the normal of the profile but along the VERTEX normal of the profile and this gives weird result.
A specific operator and modifier should be needed.
Thx guys for all those answers ...I'll investigate further , knowing that I off course used the CTL A apply scale trick
Hi! 😁 Using google, I found you that one:
cgtrader.com/tutorials/1669-how-to-repeat-an-object-along-a-path-in-blender
You probably scaled or oriented the model before doing this and it got affected by the modifier. You need to apply the transformations before using them... Use CTRL-A and apply the rotation and scale BEFORE using the modifier...
Please categorize your type of content properly as "QUESTION" for the next one... 😉
* @Christian Clavet * that is exactly what op doesn't want.. the curve modifier DEFORM the geometry along the path
