Gamepad as an input device? Where did it go?
In earlier Blender versions there was support for joystick sensors and gamepads. Was this functionality deprecated, or lost in the big rewrites to 2.9 and beyond?

I think that stuff got gutted in 2.8 when they purged Blender Internal and Blender Game Engine. You can get game engine functionality back by using UPBGE: upbge.org . It is current Blender with game engine functionality put back in.
Thanks @triguy - I am curious to see if I can pipe game pad data in to manipulate various parameters (like factor on a ramp and the like).
Well, if you're motivated enough, you could write a gamepad driver within Blender and create a node for it in logic nodes for example. Might be easier on Windows or Linux given the maturity of their respective system gamepad drivers like Xinput and SDL respectively.
