I'm surprised the vanilla UV tools aren't as high priority as they probably should be. Users have to use multiple addons for essential UV manipulation. I use addons such as TexTools, UV Toolkit, and Texel Density Checker -- all of which I feel have features that need to be the standard for Blender.

Everyone complains about UVs, and with 2.80's big push to make the UX of Blender amazing, then UV's should most definitely not be forgotten.

Thanks Pablo!

SOLIDIFY ISSUE

  1. show a cube

Image

  1. delete the upper face

Image

  1. lower an edge

Image

  1. solidify

Image

and the result is weird. If this happens with a simple cube you can guess in how many other scenarios this can happens.

This issue is particular annoying where we need to draw internal walls:

Image

this is another example:

Image

The solidify algorithm in Blender seems to be broken.

The problem I think resides in the way the normals are treated, the upper and lower edges shoudn't be extruded horizzontaly but accordingly with the side edges:

Image

I'm wondering if I'm missing something because out there are billions of tutorials and is strange that nobody has never noticed this issue before.

Could also be possible take rid of overlapping feces?

* @Mille Porte * don't be so hard and rude! BLENDER GOES WRONG IN 4 STEPS. What the ...

Don't forget that people are working hard on this!

2
Mille_Porte

* @momotron2000 * I'm sorry I really don't intend to be rude, but to pay attention in very sensitive and critical bugs that are particular exposed in everyday usage and that can lead to a frustrating Blender experience.

Remember that solidify modifier is there from the early stages and some strange behaviour is not expected.

derek.chaplin

* @Mille Porte * What version of Blender were you using when you got this results? I am unable to duplicate with 2.80 or 2.81.

AnityEx

* @Mille Porte * Tried in 2.8 its true, have you done the bug report already?

1
danielgsantana

* @Mille Porte * Check 2.82 branch, you have solidy with a mode complex that can handle this kind of situations. Also your "T" example is a degenerated geometry in most of the other DCC's.

1
Mille_Porte

* @danielgsantana * I downloaded the latest build of Blender 2.82 and the problem has been solved.

The solidify modifier now works correctly and even degenerated geometry is well treated as the following example shows:

So ambient occlusion baking to vertex colour data will be added? It seemed like a vague answer in the Blender Conference (thank you so much for asking about baking!)

Hi Pablo, love the show it is very helpful .. questions:- how to make :- 1- (real time freestyle on workbench) or (real time outline) --- like CAD software (no lighting setup just focus on modeling design with clear sharp edges.

2- (viewport unlink) --- make window witch created by (duplicated area in to new windows feture) in specific 3d view editor .... locally ( unlinked from other windows ) so the view setting will not change when you open another tab ... this was possible in blender 2.7 ... it called (viewport unlink).

3- (bevel weight percentage calculation) how to make bevel weight calculation sync with blender units --- after changing units from meter to centimeter and millimeter --- still bevel weight calculate its percentage according to meter units..

4- (Collection Transparent) --- Is there is any way to make collection Transparent while working in the one?.

suggestions:- 1-(conflict hot keys) --- make warning popup window when you inter hot-key witch conflicted with other one already used ... it will be more effition than (Is key free)

Hi Pablo, love the show and all you and the team do <3 My question is to do with the Camera Clipping. Will this become a global setting and not just per window. It's annoying to change it in normal view mode only to go into shading window and have to change it again. Maybe clipping should be in the preference settings. Should only need to change it once and forget about it. Thanks for reading <3

zutxita

* @unleashed75 * The same with the outliner filter settings, it changes every time you change the window to other workspaces, I think they should use the same settings in every workspace or have the posibility in preferences to enable this setting and could have like a god mode where the panel you want always stays in place and with the same settings! (I always want the ouliner and properties panel opened when I 'm on shading workspace, or on uv editing, on compositing, modeling...). I know you can change it once and save defaults, but you always forget something and have to save over and over. Could be nice to have a button in preferences to be able to share the panels configurations between workspaces.

romboutv

* @unleashed75 * if you can code a bit you could easy write a simple add-on which would add say a Boolean to the panel. So that on checking it on it sets all viewports with the same setring

romboutv

* @unleashed75 * He man i got a script working now which does what you asked for. Ill make it into an addon and will post the link here

Hi, Pablo! How are you doing? =) The question: isn't it a time when we might have the "Vertex Group" node in Shader editor?

For example, when I work on the environment, I need to scatter leaves under the trees, so I use trees as a "brush" object in Dynamic Paint, also I need to mix textures in the "Land" Shader. The problem is I can't use vertex groups for mixing textures, at the same time, I can't use vertex color in the particle system`s "Density" slot.{attachment CaptureJPG}

Love the show Pablo. Any news about the options to change the colors for Face Orientation?

Pablo dobarro demo'd the Blueprint tool (in almost finished state) long before he joined the coders. But till today, the tool is not included in 2.82 alpha versions. Where can we find it?

Hi there Pablo, Blender has become such a big software in the open source community and I was wondering if we could show other users that we can integrate other open source applications in the workflow along with Blender for example using GIMP or Natron for post processing or FreeCAD for precision modelling alongside Blender. What do you think? (Also what is Deep Compositing? Heard of it in the Blender Conference)

1
xan2622

* @14arianuddin * GIMP's development has slowed down a lot. I think that Krita is more promising.

xan2622

Hi Pablo !

Dr Sybren introduced a regression with this patch: developer.blender.org/rB078d02f55743cd34c51c4dd7ca710b22441a12da

I think it would be cool if a developer could bring back the previous drop-down menu, to let users only display the "Disabled Add-ons".

remingtonlmarkham

Are there plans to add the voxel remesher to the remesher modifier?

1
14arianuddin

* @remingtonlmarkham * There is already a build in GraphiCall so I'm assuming that it is in the waiting line of features to be added to Blender. :)

remingtonlmarkham

* @14arianuddin * Ah ok, I guess I was wondering more if it would be out for 81 or 82 :)

Hi Pablo! I have two questions:

  1. Have you seen the video of the performance comparison between Blender, 3d studio Max and Houdini? Blender has a frame rate that is very slow. Is it in the planning to do something for the performances increase?
  2. I am getting into development. I managed to build blender and I am following a tutorial to write a modifier. I struggle to find documentation online. It would be great to have some sort of crash course on Blender Cloud. I see there is a Blender Studio TD course I was thinking of taking that, but there are no dates available. I was wondering if you have more information about it.

Cheers and thanks for the awesomeness :)

Hi Pablo, I love you and I hope you are fine, Can I know why the Arabic language does not appear here? {attachment Untitledpng}

* @Ayman Alrawi * Hi! Even if you keep your interface in English, you still need to activate the "Translation" option in the user preferences to see complex characters like arabic or chinese ones.

Hi Pablo. Question about tile distribution between CPU and GPU strategy for Cycles.

For example, 1 tile (64x64) renders on GPU ~15 sec, on 1 CPU thread ~40ses. On my 16 threads+GPU system last (~8-10) tiles always renders on CPU and it takes more time in comparison to GPU.

Conclusion: maybe blender needs advanced tile ordering system. ~15 min render time with current tile ordering could be reduced to 13-14 with advanced. What can you say about:

  1. Different tile size for GPU and CPU implementation (does developers think to implement it?)
  2. Reserv last tiles ONLY for GPU (maybe 3-5% of tiles count, my idea)

Also, in blender 2.8x GPU render on different tile size should take same time, but it is not. There is still 128-256px tile size best for gpu rendering. Is it a bug or my specific case?

Should I create task on developer.blender.org to discuss this problem?

Hi Pablo ! Is there an schedule/road map of the Mantaflow build just like the one for the master build ?

1
andycuccaro

Hi, Pablo! My question for today is: do you guys working at the Blender Foundation/Animation Studio use other 3D software besides Blender? Or do you look at what others are doing and how are they doing it?

I'm not saying this to copy them, but to know and have more options and ways available that could spark inspirations on how to do/not to do things and even doing them better.

How to make Non STEAM blender auto update??? It's kinda annoying to do it manually

1
tobiaskummer

* @AnubisMaster * You might try github.com/overmindstudios/BlenderUpdater for semi-automated, or github.com/overmindstudios/BlenderUpdaterCLI to have a fully automated way :)

Hi Pablo. So happy to see you! I would very much like animation layers. Is this planned? It was great to be able to work with them in the dopesheet and grapheditor!

Shouldn't the Shader Editor be called the Material Editor?

Hi Pablo and congrats for the show. I have a question, why the local coordinates of an object are missing? When we have a child parent relationship we should have the local coordinates of that child in relation to the parent. Made also a Rclick select request about this with screens: blender.community/c/rightclickselect/hLdbbc/
