Stop wasting everybody's time! - Blender Bob

This happens in almost every industry - not just VFX. When I worked in games, there were AD's who would obsess over the color and size of a particular highlight on a background prop that the player might see if they were in the exact location, looking the exact direction .. and not moving. No kidding, I once spent 4 hours trying to get a highlight to match concept. I've also seen this as a contractor (world-builder, modeler, designer, animator, etc) many times. I think it comes from people who feel that unless they are changing something, they're not doing their job. It's stupid, but for some reason, those are the people that end up as AD's and directors.

The other kind of comical thing about the AD requiring "bevels" on those cartridges is that neither of the firearms in that sequence use rimmed cartridges - they use rimless cartriges (i.e. much like a plain old cylinder)

I had tree different models to make and I don't know anything about guns so I just gave this as an example. But I remember one of them was a .38.

I'm actually a gunsmith and avid shooter. The .38 is a rimmed cartridge, but to my knowledge there isn't a firearm that ejects the .38 case after it's fired. The .38 is typically seen in revolvers (which don't eject spent cases), although there have been a few revolver-style carbines that used it as well (old guns). Anyway, I totally agree with your point that way too much time is spent on details that really don't matter to anyone but a few anal-retentives ;)

hi blender bob,

maybe it makes a little sense to go into exaggerated effects that are used without sense or understanding. A lot of people don't get it and just do nonsense. I see that so often. Most of these exaggerated effects are vignettes and perspective corrections in my opinion. So often I see absolutely unnecessary "camera shift" and correction things ... People do so much nonsense and senseless things. Just because people know that these "effects" exist but not when and where it makes sense to use them. This is also something that bothers me about supposed professionals who actually have no idea. Would be cool to see something like that on your format.
