Is this supposed to happen? : submenu does exapnd when pressing A, it collaspes the whole menu

what used to happen before over at 2.79 was when you hover over a submenu and press [S] (i think), it would expand the submenu instead of collasping the larger menu.

so when i'm in modifiers, and i want to expand a submenu, i always have to click the down button instead of hovering over the submenu and pressing [A]?
