There is in 2.9 roadmap a note for Intel Embree in Cycles.
How will Embree be implemented in Blender?

Hi! 😊
Intel Embree is a library give optimized code for raytracing by using the intel CPU extensions (Ex: SSE, AVX, AVX2, and AVX-512 instructions). It's much faster that just using generic instructions from the CPU.
This should improve the performance of Cycles during rendering. Performance will vary depending on the capabilities of the CPU the user has.
So they might integrate this hybrid approach in the next release, as I see initial patches created for it. But remaining work need to be done to be complete.

Currently, Embree only use the CPU. But there is a " google summer of code " project for blender that propose to use a hybrid approach by using the GPU and Embree. wiki.blender.org/wiki/User:Qmatillat/GSoC2019/FinalReport
