3D Artist on Linux Platform?

Hi Beautiful Community! Can a Professional 3D Artist relay on Linux OS? Like Blender, GIMP, Inkscpae and also Substance Painter and Unreal Engine? Skip Zbrush and MD for a moment..

Yesss...ish. For Blender Linux is the best. GIMP, Krita, Inkscape, RAWTherapee... no problem, faster than in Windows I would say. But Unreal Engine is a pain in the b***, sure it works, but you have to compile it yourself, and it's a huge download and compilation time, each time it updates! I haven't tried plugins, but they could be also a source of headaches... Experience with Unity and Godot are much better I've heard. Overall, if you don't relay much in Unreal Engine, or use other game engines and your main work is in Blender and 2D painting in Krita, you will get a better experience in Linux, due to its snappiness. I would recommend PopOS, Linux Mint or Feren OS for a better "works out of the box" experience, just chose the one you like the desktop UI the most.

* @Toni Clavell * What About Substance Painter and Zbruhs?

* @Toni Clavell * I like Manjaro (KDE); though it is somewhat unforgiving if you are not a veteran Linux user. The customization is pretty amazing though. The main thing would be to Setup a proper backup to restore the system if it gets hosed somehow. The easiest is by using a restore tool such as Timeshift.

* @malik.haroon003 * zbrush is a no go with linux, and Substance apps all work fine last time I used them, also have Quixel Mixer and Bridge on linux too.

Has above, UE4 works but need to compile (takes approx like 30-60mins on a Ryzen 1700, 32GB Ram), and no access to marketplace content unless you have them downloaded already on a harddrive.

For me I find these programs under linux all seem to have some sort of lag compared to windows, like they not has fluid in the UI navigation, speedtree was a prime example last night I tried, choppy on linux, fluid on windows.

(using Nvidia 440x Drivers not open source).
