Character Creation

Can anyone please give me tips on how to create characters in blender, I do not have a drawing tablet but a mouse and keyboard. Does anyone please have any ideas on how I can create characters with these tools? Please get to me as soon as possible, the characters are needed for a future project. God bless you guys.

¿Are you able to draw Model Sheets and then scan them to Add these images as Image/Background Reference to the Blender file?

The Model Sheet is a Blueprint for creating models such as characters; Model Sheets are usually fundamental to Model or Sculpt 3D Characters (your Model Sheet can have frontview and sideview only; but some more developed Model Sheets may also include backview, topview, bottomview and even 3/4 view from front and 3/4 view from back); but it's not an essential tool. If you're doing Polymodelling (3D Modelling) for you 3D Characters, you barely need a graphic palette provide you've got adequate Model Sheet --but you might encounter some challenges for Texturing in the future, without a graphic palette, depending on your approach. I suspect 3D Sculpting is more limiting without a graphic palette, but I guess it's still feasible just with a mouse with some practice. I can only represent properly the perspective of a 3D Modeller for Characters. You can do it without a mouse, but if you can't scan/digitalize your drawings (or even get some Model Sheets from the web if that would make any sense), you'll probably have some difficulty making 2D Model Sheets of your Characters from scratch (either as Annotations or as Grease Pencil Objects) in the 3D Viewport Editor in Blender, with just a mouse. It is feasible yet, but it's difficult for most artists I believe.

I hope this helps anyhow. I have some useful tutorials if you're looking for instrtuction on Charactermaking in Blender using Model Sheets.

I have not really tried drawing on model sheets.

Sure; So, first, check this Simpsons' model sheet (even though it's for 2D Animation, note how they also made 3/4 views. The upper sketches are not relevant as they are just posing references for the 2D animators. The core of the Model Sheet for 3D Modelling/Sculpting I'm suggesting to you are the 4 aligned, bottom sketches on that image. i.pinimg.com/474x/b2/ec/2b/b2ec2bd689d38d1b9497fee4e48dd90b--homer-simpson-the-simpsons.jpg

I'll be adding a few more references, but you may start with this one even though it's from older Blender version and not for full body characters but the idea is the same. Note that in the Properties Editor you should be able to adjust the Opacity/Alpha/Transparency for each of those 2D Reference Images if you get one of them Selected; youtube.com/watch

Creating Characters is a fascinating artistic niche, and thus there are lots of specifics, including in CG, that should be considered. Working from good technical references, such as Model Sheet, is a great way to get started and not lost.

Can I please have your email? So we could chat more?

About mail, sorry, but I usually prefer not to share my mail on the web, but I use Discord for many Blender contacts; I find it is more dynamic and can be used asynchronous just as mailing. If you use Discord, you can find me there: pxy-gnomes #2448 Otherwise, I'll take note of your mail and send you a message, if you prefer mailing anyways.
