Moria's Race - Blender Open Movie ( not made by Blender Foundation ) was released a few months ago.

Now the source files of the film are also released. But it's not so simple.

Why it took so long to release sources?

The reasons are:

• It is big! Moria's Race sources are more than 100 GB.
  • Uploading it somewhere would be impractical.
  • Expecting people that want one file to download the whole thing is unreasonable.
• Linked Assets . Moria's Race is heavily using the linking system within blender. Every animation file requires around 200 other files to be present in specific folders for it to work.
  • Letting people download single files creates a headache of managing dependencies.

We Found a Solution! ( feat: Madiator2011 )

Thanks to Madiator2011 who hosts various high-speed servers, we developed a specialized server specifically to help people download Moria's Race source files respecting their dependencies.

If you plug it in your browser you will see that it's a simple server returning JSON formatted data about folders and .blend file dependencies. And it has options to download any specific file.

Anybody with average programming skills could build their own tools to get files that they need. But also...

Software ( Blender-Pipeline ) | GUI Implementation

Blender-Pipeline is a program that we used to organize Moria's Race.

Now Blender-Pipeline has a new remote server. Which is the exact same server system that Madiator2011 is hosting.

In the settings of your project, now you have a remote server option, where you plug the madiator's server. And when ever you will try to access a source that does not exist, it will present you with an option to download the missing ( and changed ) files.

All the .blend file dependencies would be respected and you would get the source files in such a way that everything would work.
