Lighting help

Hey guys, I was wondering how do people get such lovely lighting in their renders. I find when I try to copy lighting i get areas lit that I dont want lit. But im still achieving a looking i want i just cant get it right. do people add fake lighting after the render for example use photoshop or davinci resolve? or do they fix it up in the compositing tab? Im having a really hard time with making my lighting look good and im confused to what im doing wrong so I thought posting on her for help would be the best option. For example, this image below
