Hi, I want to ask Jacques Lucke about Everythng Nodes. What's your plan when it comes to modeling nodes? Will it be anything similar the two existing node-based modeling addons "Sorcar" and "Sverchok"?

11
snieb

Links: Sorcar , Sverchok

* @EaryChow * BTW, his Animation Nodes can also do static modeling-related things. (:

kookitoocg

Hola pablo jacques and simon

just wanted to ask about texture nodes any planes for that??

7
snieb

* @kookitoocg * And will the same nodes be available in brushes/textures & in shaders?
(e.g. Marble, Wood, Voronoi options, ...)

snieb

@Jacques: First, I really appreciate how passionate you are about good UI design, and getting the back-end foundations right with functions-blender!

Q: When designing Animation/Everything Nodes, do you look at other node-based procedural Blender add-ons like Sverchok or Sorcar , or at Houdini? Are there aspects where you deliberately made different choices, or are you mostly thinking from scratch anyway?
Have you learned particular lessons from AN, as for what likely will/won't work for EN?

Thanks! <3

Hello Everybody. I have a question for the legend that is Jacques Lucke.

Jacques, can you tell me if you drew inspiration for workflows/tools from any other 3d packages, and if so which packages and which workflows/tools. Additionally which new functionality have you implemented that doesn't exist in any other softwares to your knowledge?

Lastly, will it be possible with everything nodes to create more group types? Really hoping to be able to feed the bevel modifier an edge group, because often vertex groups are very limiting, for example in the image below it's not possible to bevel just the edges you want without bevelling the connecting edges if you need to use vertex groups rather than angle etc. You can open the image in a new tab if you can't quite see what's happening.

Oh and thanks for the VS Code extention, it's amazing. Is it possible to get it working with daily builds? I only seem to be able to get it working with the currently installed version of Blender.

* @3d illusions * I agree with edge loops; though the current work around, (for your pictured example), would be to make two separate vertex groups and likewise two separate Bevel Modifiers. It is more setup; but it works for now.

Hi Pablo and dear guests!

I know that this isn't a time for feature request, but procedural approach demands procedural measures.

I believe Shader Editor needs a "Switch" node. It will help to have different textures/maps/colours randomly spread among many copies of objects, f.e. trees, leaves, particles. I assume It has to have dynamic node connectors as well.

This workflow could be easily done with the current nodes, although one dynamic node is better than 10. Take a look at my old mock-up:{attachment 792b81e5f2504d54b8fa2e785fa50bb2-hjpg}

Hey Jack .... Are There Any Planes For new Procedural noise Nodes similar to Substance Dis,,,,,,,, .. Sorry to Compare....

5
Blender_Defender

Hey Pablo, is it possible to Add a "Mask Nodes"-Section to the Node Editor? It would mostly include the existing Nodes and it would Generate a Black and white Mask from the Nodes. This would help to generate Procedural Masks and would incredibly speed up the VFX / Video Editing workflow. Stay healthy!!

5
vfxbroseph

Would it be possible to get more inputs on nodetrees/nodegroups? For instance, nodegroups can only use values and textures as input controls. Maybe we could get color ramps and toggle-tickboxes as well?

4
dir-surya

i beg u for this .... when can we expect the Node based smoke simulations ? . and node based Hair and fur system ?...... and modeling ?

4
snieb

@Simon (the node sorcerer :3):
How do you approach creating complex shaders, esp. those that basically encode a 3D model (e.g. snowman )?
How can you split it up into parts and only work on one aspect, without messing up everything else?
How useful do you find the techniques you learned there for more down-to-Earth materials?

Bonus: How can I wrap my head around vector displacement & practice it? 🤯

4
snieb

(basically, what i'm asking is: "howww????" ^^)

2

* @snieb * Agree, I'd love to hear this too.

ChrisGraz

Hi Pablo! I am really missing something like a color palette node or an option to access the color palette from the color picker. Are there any plans on something like that? It would be super awesome when marking multiple materials with a certain color and being able to change the color of all of them at once.

Thanks for your videos! Stay safe!

With Everything Nodes, will we be able to still work in Blender the Old Fashion way while Blender generates the corresponding Node Tree behind the scene?

Will we be able to have a sort of "Custom Procedural Generator" for Procedural Modeling with Everything Nodes?

3
BarfGarbage

Sup, B-boyz. Will we use nodes for rigging as well in the future? That would be way past cool.

3
LapisSea

* @SlugNugget * Yes rigging is at the moment extremely repetitive and some kind of edit node setup would greatly improve the process of rigging.

nacioss

Simon, please could you make a tutorial series explaining how to best use the vector nodes for procedural textures?

3
Pascal

My question to Jacques.

Will nodes have better performance than the modifiers? especially that people can create very complex graphs easomy and will it be possible to add your own from the API?

Pablo: we need a Special for Rigging & Animation, I got some questions for the crew :)

3
CultLess

Hi and thanks for your channel

I'm working on a procedural node based texture creator kind of the style of "Substance Designer" (I already built some with Blender Nodes inspired by Simon Thommes). Two questions on that:

  1. How can I add curves and sliders to a node? (Like in RGBCurve and ColorRamp)

  2. Is it possible to access Blender Nodes with Python without adding them in the shader ? (Passing values to the source code of the node, especially texture nodes). I only need the value output generated by the node with own parameters. Or where can I find the math for textures in the source code?

3
snieb

* @CultLess * Really not an expert on the code, but maybe looking at patches where nodes were added/changed helps? e.g. White Noise , others
source/blender/gpu/shaders/material and intern/cycles/kernel/shaders look promising.

Zeastin

Hey everyone! What nodes or features of current nodes do you feel are missing from blender currently?

3
DesignFreedom

* @jc_4_me * nodes for modeling in general and with nurbs specifically in my view

AnityEx

what do you think the most underappreciated nodes are?

3
koko_ze

Hi! I was wondering if something like this would be possible to be made with nodes:{attachment scalablepng}

2
greensoma

Will there be an equivalent to OSL Nodes in eevee? Will there be something similar like for example a GLSL node or something similar which is optimized for GPU? Also a python node would be great.

2
Cobra

Hi everyone. I have 2 parts question.

First what's the bigger scope of everything nodes? is it something like Houdini with total control to the most basic attribute or Maya or inbetween?

Second : If we're going to go with that then what will happens to the Bones & Constraints especially they are contained in an Armature object, how do they become nodes?

2
Mille_Porte

** Modifier vs Python vs Everything Nodes

@Jacques, @Simon

Hi, I would like to know if Everything Nodes will questioning the modifiers and even Python scripting, will they be redoundant?

Everything Nodes will be a framework to do literally everyhing in non -destructive way?

Will the framework integrate Sverchock or they are totally unrelated?

Are blur o masking nodes on their way? Some old procedural nodes like "Wood" are still very useful ("Voronoi" appear to be more complex than the one in Cycles) and don't have a counter part in Cycles, they will be reused or dropped in the future?

Thank you!

2
Ignotus

Heya guys I love that you are doing this, hope you doing good in isolation.

So the interesting thing to me is the whole idea of procedural modelling, I watched Anastasia Opara 2017 Siggraph talk about layering simple rule sets to build complex procedural models. Such as energy efficiency for tress, such that they automatically optimize branch structure, depending on the environment. Is this the type of possibilities we can expect with the everything nodes, being able to set up simple rule sets for models?

and is this gonna tie into the physics system in any way, such that you can use it for interactions, for example rigid bodies.

A more pratical question if i can squeeze it in. Can we expect a overhaul of the current AN and nodes UI. Because I believe the way this interaction is done is key to make a system that is powerful.

2
poudeldippan

Hey might be stupid to ask but what about making games using nodes, not like blender 2.7 style but just with this new node system and programming

1
JakAss007

* @poudeldippan * Yes, this is what I'm here for.

MickHanks

Please make image maps auto-update and show a thumbnail on the node.

1
printerkiller

Just wanted to say thank you for your great work!

1
jeanalexandersc

Really looking forward to Everything Nodes.

1
alan.zirpoli

Hi Pablo, thanks for another nerd hour! I love the show so much.

Now that VR has reached a higher priority status, would make sense to start thinking about blender scenes running on the browser much alike verge3d or blendforweb?

1
Erindale

My big big question: Are we going more Grasshopper or more Houdini?

I can't wait for this! Between Sverchok, Sorcar and Animation Nodes I barely poly model anything any more. Now we just need freestyle to be updated to be able to handle BIM classes so I can export drawings straight from Blender rather than paying through the nose for autoCAD.

1
Darknoodles

Hi Pablo, Jacques, Simon ! I hope you are all fine !

1 - Do you think we will have more nodes like normal map combine, parallax occlusion mapping, pattern repeaters, shapes and so on ? Substance Designer has a lot these nodes along with masks nodes. Creating them from scratch in Blender can be really difficult (though really instructive) and time consuming.

2 - Nodes are very convenient even in fields we wouldn't have thought about. For baking for exemple. There is an addon called BakeWrangler that automates the process of pairing... baking pairs. Do you plan on including this addon or a similar methode in blender officially ?

Thanks for making Blender more awesome everyday :D

1
14arianuddin

* @darknoodlesorigine * You should check out this for shape nodes: devtalk.blender.org/t/sdf-functions/11055/10

viadvena

Hello guys! Light source textures is still a lack in Eevee. When this feature appear for us?

1
snieb

@Jacques: You mentioned that the goal of Everything Nodes is not just to implement more node systems per se, but that nodes will be an important tool to achieve the goals of EN.
Can you elaborate a bit on this? What things are nodes the worst at? And are there other ways to make those things more accessible to procedural workflows?

Bonus: Would it be feasible to switch back and forth between a visual node tree interface, and some kind of scripting-language representation? After all, node graphs kind of represent nested functions, afaiu... 🤔

1
znake13

Hallo Pablo. Hope you're having a good day. I was wondering if there are any plans to create a parallax vector node. This would really help to improve the '3D' look of a depth map or bump map without having to resort to displacement nodes or modifiers.

1
nalinbro28

Will there be more nodes added like bevel node

1
nikitron

just hope we can integrate sverchok nodes as extra addon for everything nodes with numpy data structure. Because if you create math nodes working with your data, we need that node to work with ours numpy also.

Alifyan_M

that crazy

AndySellers

I read an article a while back, where Jacques commented on why he wasn't developing animation nodes anymore. He said he believed we could do better. I'm curious what he had in mind when he said that. What are some things he wasn't satisfied with in AN?

nabakiafrika

PLEASE! How do you even think of these things? It's beyond creativity as we know it! danke schon.

karel1

Hi, Is there node in the works to seperate the color/value of the emitters in a mantaflow, so you can mix fluids with multiple colors?

al.muradyh

QUESTION: Hi, Pablo in modeling special episode you mention something regarding animation and center of the world

JakAss007

What about making games using nodes?

mgkflute

Why is a blur node in cycles an issue?

Gen0me

Hey guys. How abour sorting the geometry, tangent, texture coordinate, object info nodes into one?

matthew1

Will Everything Nodes bring us to parity between EEVEE & Cycles, or at least 97%?

MassimoMoneta

Animation nodes are really too much important, a basic workflow for a lot of people. I Really hope to see soon an everything node release. We came from Softimage and we used to work with ICE so animation nodes are a MUST. Thanks guys and good job.

adrencg

These nodes are great and everything, but when will the Subdivision and Multiresolution modifiers be fixed to work as well as they did in 2.79?

juangea

Hellooooo!!

I'm Jacques horrible nightmare about performance... hehehe

  • When do you think we will have the first merge in master of the first function nodes and particle nodes implementation

  • And what's the scope for the solvers right now?

Thanks for you work guys!!!!

michael.campbell

Hi everyone. I'd like to know if there will be a script node which allows you to modify data using something like python or c++? Maybe even GPU accelerated?

slayerdude93

Hi guys! Is there/Is it possible to add some kind of "time node" to control animation independent from playback? So I could open a project and see particle simulations in realtime without need to press play button. Thanks!

ponomarovmax

Hello Pablo, Jacques and Simon!

Question for Jacques: What special functionality we would have in Functions Nodes, which we can not get in the current Particle System now?

Doo-kie

Hello!! Hope you are all well? Quick question regarding particles nodes! can the particles hit each other with the new nodes? (each particle)

northgoingzak

Can we add we add a seamless option for the different texture types?

Also,

Will there be a rotation option for the vector math node?

tom.kayakson

51 comments already! :)

cbhrids

Hello, are you planning to change UI to unclutter node tree and remove properties from nodes themselves and put them in setting window like in Houdini? Now in little more complicated shaders it's getting really messy, I can't image this approach with more complicated node trees, that people will be making after "Everything Nodes" implementation?

And goddamit, THANK YOU for your hard work, to all of you devs!

rafaeldetovar

Hello again. I have an interesting cuestion.

Is going to exist pre-created node group?

For expample: Create a grid with an object fallof.

This kind of job will be easer and faster if some node groups are created.

Thanks again.

JayeAntony

Hey guys hope your all stating safe and my questions will we have nice based rigging as well Las modified and particles? Also how is the UI coming along?

lsscpp

Hola Pablo! Thanks for your videos! I'd like to ask if the nodegraph reading-direction is going to be always left to right everywhere or not, since I saw on code.blender.org that in some cases (flow control) it will be right-to-left. Does this makes sense? why not reverse it anyway to read it as everywhere else in the UI?

DesignFreedom

Hello Pablo, Jacques, Simon and thank you for the great work you're doing!

Question to Jacques: will the NODES provide possibility to comprehensively work with NURBS?

ast.alex

This is a rigging and animation question, maya has deformers and rigging methods that can utilize the parallel nature of your hardware to make the animation deformation draw much faster on the view-port, also the new animation playback can be cashed in real-time even before you hit the play button ... giving animators near real-time playback on a very heavy scene, dose blender has any existing feature that takes that advantage .. or are you planing such things for any upcoming updates ...

rafaeldetovar

Hello Guys. I have two easy question :)

1- In this everythings nodes it will existing the posibility to manipulate the primitive object in a non destroctive way? Like Cinema 4D

2- You will avaible of manipulate the keyframes and curves? Right now its not posible I think xD jeje

Thanks Guys. Amazing work.

adamsanim8

Hi. when you say everything will be a node, is it to the lowest level too? meaning will there be DNA nodes like Attribute ,transform,shape,utilities..etc

parkeramitrakshar
How does actually * Layer Weight * input Node Work?

Hey you, Developers and Great Artists.... (and Also the Community) StayHome, StaySafe, Don't Rush into Office anytime soon, and Keep Doing Great Things for Blender.... (THANK YOU All for doing that and This Everyday Series, during this Endless time At Home, probably Everyone Needed this)

snieb

* @Amitrakshar Biszz * Yeah, the docs aren't super clear about the difference between Fresnel vs. Facing .

CultLess

* @Amitrakshar Biszz * Facing takes the direction of the camera view into account. It might get clear if you point a spotlight on two spheres at a high angle and compare them.

2
parkeramitrakshar

* @CultLess * Thank You... I just Took your advice and Did what you said.... I think I kinda Understand now........ Fresnel vs Facing.... ❤️
