Need help for my thesis!

Hi everyone! I am writing a thesis for my degree on Blender and on the impact that free software is having on the world of multimedia, if any of you have experience with Blender and any of its competitors could you answer these questions even in a few words?

  1. How does Blender differ from its competitor?
  2. Which do you prefer to use and why?"

If someone will answer me it will be of HUGE help, no matter how much experience and your skills, I am interested in your opinion!

I prefer to use Blender over K-3D. I will never touch Maya or anything by autodesk because they are proprietary. And as evident by the Autodesk licenses, anything autodesk is malware. Blender is Free Software ( as in Freedom ). If I need I can modify it to my liking, without asking a permission from the devs. People did cool projects using the source code of Blender. And I love them. Things like Armory Paint or UPBGE would not be possible if Blender was proprietary.

  1. I can only compare to 3dsmax which I have being using for over 20 years in production. I have convinced our studio to switch over to blender, which we are currently in the process of doing. It differs in that it is a truly multidisciplinary tool that adds 3d painting, sculpting, 2d, compositing and tracking tools to a robust and efficient 3d environment.
  2. Hands down blender (after getting used to a different way of doing things) It is just faster to try things out. It provides stability way superior (really!) Is so fast to load and project and task switch. Provides stable real time preview of spherical cameras in the viewport to actually see what you are doing (nearly all of our work is with these cameras) without worrying about crashing! Amazing. With geometry nodes it extends modelling and animation capabilities beyond what is possible with 3dsmax and vray. Has a way better animation curve editor and material editior. Is constantly improving at fast rate and is not only transparent about all its activities but providing great information. The ability to find solutions to issues through the community and the developers is first class. In addition its texture painting is far superior and has all the other tools and functions mentioned previously that are not present in other software. So far I have found only the particle system to be clunky enough to be annoying but I'm still reasonably happy with its performance and stablity until it becomes particle nodes :)
