Blender's development fund is like half a million U$D each year. Wonder what an additional 1 million could do?

* @jeanalexandersc * yup, very good news for BF and for industry.

* @jeanalexandersc * "will be delivered incrementally over the next three years"

So, by my calculations the monthly grant from epic over the next 3 years will be $33,333 that is well over the amount required to reach the current development fund goals.

Ton tweeted that the grant is truly no strings attached with the only requirement being that it is used only for the development of blender.

This is all very exciting news but be vary that Epic is very anti-linux and has been doing really shady stuff since the start of this year. I don't think think they will mess with Blender the way that they've been handling other stuff but I hope that they don't have any "influence" over the linux side of blender development.

* @akshayxw69 * haha Epic isn't anti linux, we work closely with them and many developers use it. Either way, Epic will not be able to touch the blender development, especially the linux side... the reason? Because there's no point in it, if you're doing Blender on linux or Windows or Mac, the end product will end up in Unreal anyway if you're using it on a project, it's not profitable to anyone to stop that.

* @akshayxw69 * where did you hear that they anti-linux? They port their system to linux too

Great big thank you to Epic Games for supporting the Blender development Fund. So much more can be achieved and I hope that others will follow. When Photini Ltd is up and running, we'll proudly become corporate sponsors of Blender in no time at all... Big Up Pablo, thanks for keeping us all in the loop.

the developement fund now extended to 100k (20 full-time developers), i guess we can have code quests for the next 3 years hahahah

I really hope this donation wasn't a bribe. Because 2 weeks after Epic's donation, Blender removed BGE which is competing software with Unreal Engine. I'm not making any accusations because I have no evidence, but it's a fact that some companies care a lot more about taking out the competition than playing fair. Regardless, I'm disappointed about BGE being removed. And thanks for the donation to Epic if my paranoias are wrong.

please use this 1.2 million to make BAKING MAPS on EVEE and Workbench...!

Vyach

* @berkru * some baking is just remapping (emission and albedo, normals), and there is no difference what render doing it. But light-baking — is raytracing. Son Cycles should do it. If you want to bake custom reflection map, just use panoramic camera to render environment. What do you want to bake with workbench?

WHERE'S BAKING MAPS ON EVEE? or workbench?

antonioya

What will change for volunteer developers?

pniyal

How about Features like hair sim and water sim inbuilt in blender and not as third party plugins. Which is pending since 2.5 😊
