Procedural Gratings, problem with the z axis...

Hi guys ! I'm a (almost) complete beginner on blender. I'm currently trying to create procedural Gratings. Gitterrost-Pressrost.jpg

So far, i managed to create a 2d procedural grid with 2 Wave textures (one for the x, one for the y) linked to the alpha of my BSDF node.

2D GRID.JPG Now comes the tricky part : I'd like to thicken this grid in the z axis (make it 3d..) but i can't find the proper way to do so..

I tried to extrude the mesh in the z axis : the result is an "empty" mesh on the z axis when i'd like it to be "filled". I tried with the solidify modifier and got the same disappointing result.. 3D GRID.JPG

There's obviously something i'm missing here, and I was wondering if you guys could give me a hand with this.

Thanks a lot for your time !

You can look into parallax mapping. But if I were you I would try to create this as geometry instead of a shader-only approach.

You can model one cell/section of the grid and add two array modifiers for example. One array for X, and another one for Y.
