cycle render

I manage to launch a preview with the "cycle" rendering engine but when I launch an image rendering, the rendering stops with these indications: Frame:1 Time : 00:05:03 Men:158.55M Peak:158.55 What is the difference between a preview and a final render? What settings should I make? Do you have a tutorial on this subject? Thanks for your help

Preview is what you see in your 3D viewport when you choose the option "Viewport shading". Final render is the actual result of a render, which you can save to a file.

What you are looking for is "sampling" in the properties panel under the tab "Render properties". For ease of understanding you can regard Sampling as the quality. The higher the number, the longer it takes to render and the better quality picture you get.

With the newer versions of Blender, the Cycles engine has been vastly improved, and you can use lower sampling number. You can set Render sampling and Viewport sampling to 10 for a speedy look. If you also choose viewport denoising, you are getting decent results.

The very latest versions of blender use adaptive sampling and you can tweak that (and the time it takes to render) via the Noise Threshold.

Thank you for your explanations which will be useful to me in the future.
