FLIP VS APIC SIMULATION (Personal observation: flip is good for large scale while apic is good for small scale.)
I just recently noticed that there was a new fluid simulation type in blender called apic. From what I have observed, it definitely has some interesting things under the hood.
While flip has been the standard for blenders realistic fluid simulation, I am starting to notice that apic has some potential to be also in the same realm with flip. Specifically on the behavior side, apic in my opinion looks and reacts more like a water; again there are multiple types of fluids, which includes mud, slurry, metallic, and many more but commonly what I am trying to set the standard with is how it can simulate the regular water behavior.
And from what I have seen, apic behaves like an actual/realistic water, and it doesn't require higher settings for it to show a good result. I cannot conclude that it is better than flip, although I can say it is a good additional option. Good news to have some new kind of technology being added to blender.

Yeah basically how the Houdini documentation describes it too
